BPD: Nordstrom Rack security guard stabbed
A Bakersfield man was arrested Thursday in connection to stabbing a Nordstrom Rack security guard and stealing goods worth thousands of dollars from businesses at The Shops at River Walk.
John Gutierrez, 22, was approached by a guard on May 25 after he saw Gutierrez steal merchandise valued at about $3,000, police reported. Gutierrez assaulted and stabbed the guard, which caused the man to be hospitalized, police added.
Gutierrez was identified by Bakersfield police officers as a suspect in thefts at Ulta Beauty and another theft from Nordstrom Rack, police added.
Police arrested Gutierrez and said he had a loaded handgun, suspected fentanyl pills and cocaine. He was booked on suspicion of grand theft, second-degree robbery and burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and numerous other felonies.
A 17-year-old boy and a man were arrested by police in central Bakersfield on suspicion
of illegally having weapons.
Bakersfield police patrol officers were in the 100 block of 3rd Street at 6:03 p.m. Tuesday when they saw three people walking and one person was carrying what appeared to be a gun, according to a news release issued Thursday.
Officers approached the group, and the firearm was discarded, police wrote. Two people were detained. However, a third person — a 17-year-old boy — discarded another gun as he evaded officers. The teenager was also arrested, police wrote.
The first gun that was discarded was an airsoft gun that appeared as if it were a real firearm.
Hugo Reyes, 32, was also arrested on suspicion of nine felonies, including weapons charges and conspiracy.
A man was arrested Wednesday after he hit two cars — including a police patrol car —
during a vehicle pursuit with officers, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
It began once officers got a report of a stabbing and went to the 400 block of 20th Street. Officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area to see if it was involved in the incident, but the motorist, Leopoldo Barrios, 40, drove away. It was later concluded there was no report of a stabbing.
Barrios struck a vehicle at Union and California avenues as he drove away from police and caused a person in that car to be injured, BPD reported. The pursuit ended after Barrios intentionally hit a police car in the 500 block of East 11th Street and then started to run away from officers, a news release added.
Police found Barrios had methamphetamine and had discarded a firearm during the pursuit.
He was booked on suspicion of a hitand-run, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, weapons charges and having methamphetamine. He wasn’t listed in custody as of 3 p.m. Thursday.
The Bakersfield Police Department identified a man Thursday who was shot Wednes
day, but didn’t identify the officers involved in the incident.
Ramiro Molina, 23, and Francisco Rodriguez, 28, were suspects in a drug trafficking investigation and were approached by police at an am/pm gas station, police previously said. Molina is accused of crashing into a patrol car and then was shot by an officer.
Molina was taken to the hospital while Rodriguez was arrested at the scene, police said.
Molina was booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm on a peace officer, obstructing an executive officer and drug charges.
Rodriguez was booked on suspicion of having drugs to sell them, conspiracy and other misdemeanor charges.
BPD added the investigation is ongoing more information will be provided to the public.
A Bakersfield Police Department patrol car hit a civilian’s vehicle Thursday and caused
the driver to be sent to the hospital.
A patrol car was going east in the 1300 block of Panama Lane when a driver made a turn onto Hammond Way from a westbound lane in front of a patrol car and was hit.
The driver suffered a minor injury, police reported. The officer complained of pain.
Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the collision, BPD added.
