Why Biden is a terrible president

- Frank Falero is an emeritus professor of economics at Cal State Bakersfield.

Some of my former CSUB students and friends keep asking me why I think Joe Biden is a terrible president. I thought I would write down the reasons.

a. Employment. The actual number of new jobs created during the Biden era is not the 12 million he claims but rather around 3,426,000 or an increase of 2.16% from the peak pre-pandemic levels of employment. The rest of those temporarily lost jobs due to the pandemic returned as soon as the pandemic restrictions were relaxed.

b. Prices. The president claims that inflation is dropping and indeed the rate of price increase in declining, but the fact remains that the CPI was 259.037 on January 2020 and is now 307.917, an increase of 18.86% since Biden took office. This increase will not go away.

c. Migrants. During the Biden administration, since January 2020, there have been around 10 million migrants.

Some of these folks came through the legal ports of entry but the vast majority crossed the border illegally, breaking our laws. In fact, there are many thousands that we know got into the country without any restrictions and are now in the country without anyone knowing anything about them. These people are receiving subsidized housing, financial resources, food, education and medical support. And all at the expense of the homeless, our homeless veterans, and those people at the bottom ring of the ladder, mostly Black and other people of color.

d. Afghanistan. The Biden administration’s disgraceful pullout from Afghanistan, besides leaving more than a billion dollars worth of military equipment up for grabs and a trail of dead Americans, emboldened our enemies. Hence, Hamas attacks Israel, Russia attacks Ukraine, China increases its threats against Taiwan and flies spy balloons over the continental USA, Iran’s proxies attack U.S. and our allies’ interests in the Middle East, including shipping in the Red Sea and in the Persian Gulf. Rightly or wrongly, the Biden administration is perceived as weak and ineffective.

e. “Woke Ideology.” The Biden administration’s support and advocacy of “woke ideology” has created a situation where a Supreme Court justice does not know what a woman is, where men can compete in women’s sports, where our most prestigious university presidents do not know what anti-semitism means, and where children can make life-changing decisions without their parents knowledge or consent.

I would like to know the reasons some people think Trump would be a bad choice for president. I really don’t want to hear about personality traits like hair, or language, or being bombastic. If you don’t like someone then don’t have a drink with them, I don’t.
