Why Donald Trump should not be president for a second time
Iwish I could find the words to feign humility and conceal my gloating over how Cal State Bakersfield emeritus professor Frank Falero’s opinion piece on Joe Biden (“Why Biden is a terrible president,” Jan. 8) falls short.
It is obvious Dr. Falero is a Donald Trump apologist. This colors his criticisms of President Biden.
But let’s take a look at the last part of Falero’s letter.
To wit: “I would like to know the reasons some people think Trump would be a bad choice for president.”
Here is a list of some of the reasons why Donald Trump is unfit to be president again:
1. Trump hurt the United States’ standing on the world stage for reasons that should be obvious. President Biden has worked hard to repair our relations with our European allies;
2. Trump, as a former president, has been indicted an unprecedented four times;
3. Trump was given a $5 million judgment for sexually abusing a woman. Trump is now on trial again for defaming this poor woman. Trump has a history of objectifying women. This is best illustrated by some 18 women accusing him of sexually harassing them. Are they all liars?;
4. Trump failed to follow through on his promise to the American people to make Mexico pay for the border wall;
5. Trump made some poor Cabinet appointments. Several quit and two resigned in disgrace;
6. Trump’s nimbus of strangeness is illustrated in asserting President Abraham Lincoln could have avoided the Civil War and that an agreement could have been negotiated;
7. Trump’s family ties to the White House smacked of nepotism;
8. Trump’s conduct is far more onerous than some questionable personality traits, i.e., his early racist comments about Mexican immigrants, his encouraging the mob attack on our nation’s Capitol Complex that left 54 dead and more than 100 Capitol police officers injured, as well as countless diatribes and lies unbecoming of an American president;
9. Trump’s dastardly call for Vice President Mike Pence to not certify the 2020 presidential results will stand in infamy against the orderly transfer of presidential power;
11. Trump refused to immediately call off the Capitol rioters; instead, he stood by watching television and calling his political allies;
12. Trump’s record budget deficits and increasing the national debt is a matter of public record;
13. Trump made $7 million from four foreign countries while president, including China, the nation he vociferously disdained;
14. Trump’s specious birtherism attacks against President Barack Obama defied reason;
15. Bogus Trump University caused many students financial pain, resulting in a $5 million judgment against him;
16. Trump’s fraternizing with the dictators of North Korea, Russia and South America strongmen, coddling of white nationalists and frequent outlandish public diatribes are well captured by former Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan: “Donald Trump is an authoritarian narcissist.”
These are some of the reasons Donald Trump should not be president again.
It is astonishing Dr. Falero is either ignorant of or dismisses the Trump record.
