Woman suspected of stealing copper pleads not guilty
The woman suspected of stealing more than 200 pounds of copper pleaded not guilty to grand theft at her arraignment Friday in Kern County Superior Court.
Kylee Peer, 28, is charged with possession of a controlled substance with a loaded gun, possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, grand theft of copper wires and vandalism of $400 or more.
Peer’s lawyer, Victor Nassar, entered a not guilty plea on his client’s behalf via phone call on Friday. Peer was out of custody and appeared in court for her arraignment.
She and co-defendant Samuel Lane were arrested on Jan. 26 on Castaic Avenue in Oildale after Kern County Sheriff’s deputies found 200 pounds of copper, 16 guns, rounds of ammunition and one ounce of suspected methamphetamine, according to sheriff’s reports.
Lane is being held on a $460,000 bail and is in KCSO custody. For the January case with Peer, Lane faces 22 charges: 16 counts of possession of a gun by a felon, one count of possession of a controlled substance while armed with a gun, one count of possession of ammunition after being prohibited to, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of burglary tools, one count of grand theft of copper and one count of vandalism of $400 or more.
Lane also faces numerous charges for cases opened in October, December and earlier this month, according to the Kern County Superior Court online database.
Although the two were arraigned at different times, Peer and Lane will appear in court on the same days starting with their pre-preliminary hearing on March 5 and their preliminary hearing on March 6.
