Welcome to the ‘90s — the 1590s — as Centennial becomes the first local high school to produce the award-winning and hilarious Broadway musical “Something Rotten!”

The musical debuted on Broadway in 2015, earning 10 Tony Award nominations, taking home one for best featured actor (Christian Borle).

Set in 1595 London, England, the show follows the Bottom brothers, Nick and Nigel (played perfectly by Noah White and Austin Cline), who are trying to find success by writing plays. The duo are outshined by the rock-star playwright of the Renaissance, William Shakespeare (Jack Prince).

Desperate to find success, Nick seeks help from a soothsayer (Paul Reynolds), and they set out to write their next big hit, “Omelette: The Musical.” Featuring numerous musical theater references, the comedy in Something Rotten! never stops.

Of the Broadway musical, Playbill. com wrote, “With its heart on its ruffled sleeve and sequins in its soul, ‘Something Rotten!’ is an uproarious dose of purse Broadway fun and an irresistible ode to musicals.”

Additional cast members include Jade Lizarraga as Bea Bottom, Belle Boren as Portia, Rye Reynolds as Brother Jeremiah, Landon Ramirez as Shylock, Andrew Arias as the Minstrel, and more than a dozen additional CHS students rounding out the ensemble.

This show is stage-managed by Teylor Rapoza, Tatum Sandoval and Landon Ramirez. David Howe provides the technical direction for this production, with students Belle Boren and Andrew Arias vocal directing, assisted by Jade Lizarraga, and additional choreography provided by students Jack Prince and Isabel Schmunk.

Showtimes are 7 p.m. April 5, 11 and 12 and 2 p.m. April 6 and 13 in the Performing Arts Center at Centennial High School, 8601 Hageman Road. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to each performance.

Admission is $15 at the door, $10 for KHSD students with an ASB sticker. Tickets can also be purchased online (fees apply) at centennialtheatre.ludus.com, or in advance at the CHS Finance Office.

Please note that this show does contain mature humor, although it has been edited from its original version.
