A hearing for a man suspected of stabbing two men and killing one of them was delayed to June after his appearance Friday in Kern County Superior Court.

Adam Nicholas Danforth, 39, is charged with attempted murder and first-degree murder for the stabbing death of David Robert Stroup, 44, at a home in the 10800 block of Anacostia Way on Jan. 10. Danforth was arrested two days later at the San Ysidro U.S.-Mexico Border, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

Another man, who was not named by the BPD, was stabbed and taken to Kern Medical for treatment. The man said he had known Danforth for about a month and Danforth had asked to hang out with the man that day, according to the BPD report submitted to the court.

The man told Danforth he could not hang out because Stroup was at the house, according to the report. Danforth came over to the house and the man told officers Danforth began to punch him.

He later figured out that Danforth was not punching him, but instead stabbing him after the man saw he was bleeding. The man told officers he did not say anything to Danforth prior to the stabbing to upset Danforth and was unsure if Danforth was still upset that he could not hang out, according to the report.

The man told officers Danforth stabbed him about 15 to 20 times in the living room of his home before stabbing Stroup afterward, according to the police report. According to the BPD report, officers found lacerations on Stroup’s back and torso. Officers also found two knives at the crime scene, according to the report.

At Friday’s hearing, Danforth appeared in court in custody of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. Danforth is being represented by defense attorney Tony Lidgett after he was previously represented by the Kern County Public Defender’s Office.

Danforth is being held without bail and his next hearing will be June 5.
