Coroner: Wasco man died from gunshot wounds from Jan. 28

The Kern County coroner’s office confirmed Tuesday that the man who died in the 1100 block of 10th Place in Wasco on Jan. 28 died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Fernando Torres, 40, of Wasco died at the scene and his death is being investigat­ed by homicide detectives, according to the coroner.

A 25-year-old woman named Starr Powell who went miss

ing Sunday in the 8600 block of Bernard Street was found, the Bakersfiel­d Police Department reported Tuesday. No other details were provided.

A teenage boy went missing around 11:15 p.m. Saturday

in the 3000 block of Pecangrove Drive, according to the Bakersfiel­d Police Department.

Isaiah Beach, 17, is described by BPD as white, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 140 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, tan cargo pants, white shoes and a black beanie, according to BPD.

The Bakersfiel­d Police Department is asking for

the community’s help in identifyin­g the car involved in a hit-and-run crash on Stockdale Highway that killed a 79-year-old woman on Jan. 10.

BPD describes the car as a newer model full-size lifted truck in metallic-gold with an aftermarke­t LED light bar across the cab and dark tinted windows.

The Kern County Fire Department saved a cat

from a burning house in the 1900 block of 13th Avenue in Delano around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.

KCFD assisted the Delano Police Department, which reported two people were inside the burning building. When KCFD arrived, both people were out of the house and were later taken to a hospital for treatment. One of them was reportedly injured.

The fire started from an unattended candle in a bathroom that caught a shower curtain on fire, according to KCFD.
