Expanding Bakersfield ARC’s reach, impact
Imagine a world where every individual, regardless of their abilities, is empowered to contribute meaningfully to their community, a world where the barriers that separate us are dismantled, and in their place, bridges of understanding and support are built. This is the world that Bakersfield ARC envisions and tirelessly works toward every day.
My transition from the bustling corridors of political power, serving alongside House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, to the heart of Bakersfield ARC as the junior vice president of development, is not just a change of job. It is a profound shift toward fulfilling a lifelong commitment to service, championing the cause of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, or IDD. Working alongside Erika Dixon and Shawn Kennemer is truly an honor.
In Kern County, where the fabric of our community is woven with threads of diversity and resilience, Bakersfield ARC stands as a lighthouse, guiding individuals with IDD toward a harbor of opportunity, acceptance and empowerment. My journey to this point has been fueled by a dedication to serve — a value deeply ingrained in me from my earliest days. Joining the ranks of Bakersfield ARC is more than a professional milestone; it is a deeply personal honor, an opportunity to channel my experiences, insights and passion into a cause that transcends political boundaries and speaks to the very core of our humanity.
Bakersfield ARC stands as a beacon of hope and support for individuals with IDD, tirelessly working to connect these remarkable individuals to the broader community. Our mission is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to lead a fulfilling life, filled with opportunities for growth, engagement and contribution. It’s a mission that resonates deeply with me, echoing my own passion for fostering environments where everyone can thrive.
Throughout my career, especially during my tenure as the Kern and Tulare County district representative for McCarthy, I’ve been privileged to advocate for policies and initiatives that directly impact the well-being of our community. This experience has equipped me with a unique understanding of the critical intersection between legislative action and community needs. I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of collaboration between organizations, government entities and the community to enact meaningful change.
It’s this perspective that I bring to Bakersfield ARC, driven by a vision to harness our collective strengths to empower those we serve.
Our approach at Bakersfield ARC is holistic, recognizing that individuals with IDD have diverse needs and aspirations. By fostering strong community connections and advocating for supportive policies, we aim to create a society that not only accepts but celebrates differences. Our initiatives are designed to promote inclusion, enhance quality of life and ensure that individuals with IDD have the opportunities to participate fully in community life.
As we look to the future, my focus will be on expanding Bakersfield ARC’s reach and impact. This means not only strengthening our existing programs but also innovating new ways to meet the evolving needs of our community. It involves building bridges with legislative bodies to advocate for policies that support individuals with IDD, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights protected. It’s about creating a network of support that encompasses families, caregivers, and the broader community, all working together toward a common goal.
Community engagement and legislative advocacy will be central to our efforts. My experience has taught me the importance of fostering dialogue, understanding different perspectives and finding common ground.
Our mission is bold, our commitment unwavering, and together, we will create a world where every individual has the chance to shine, to contribute and to lead a life of fulfillment and purpose. Welcome to a new chapter in our community’s story, one where every voice is heard, every potential is recognized, and every life is celebrated.
