Bakersfield – Lucille (Lomas) Powers, age 78, of Bakersfield, California passed away peacefully in her home while surrounded by her family.

Lucille was born March 16, 1946 to Antonio and Mary Lomas. She was the 7th of 8 children.

Lucille attended Bakersfield High School and she loved participating in sports. She played volleyball and baseball and she was very competitive. She also loved dancing and was a member of a school dance team called the “Drillerettes”. She really enjoyed dancing with her team in local parades and she was very proud of her school. Lucille was well known for always saying, “Once a Driller, always a Driller!” She even had the opportunity to dance with (CSO), Community Service Organization.

Not only could Lucille dance, but she also had a beautiful singing voice and used to sing, alongside her sister Joanna Lomas, at a teen dance hall with a band called “The Gaylads” and even put on a show at Tehachapi Correctional Facility in front of a very large audience of incarcerated individuals. She had no fear!

Lucille was later married to Arthur Vasquez and they had 4 children, Guy, Tim, James and Steve. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur. She later met and married Avel Dominguez and had two more children, Davina and Richard, before they dissolved their marriage many years later. Lucille was a wonderful mother to all 6 of her children and her absence in their lives is already felt.

It wasn't until her children were grown that she met her husband Bruce Powers. Lucille and Bruce were inseparable and truly enjoyed being adventurous together and also with their family. They traveled, went on cruises, took road trips in their sports cars, went camping and often spent time riding their off-road buggies in the desert. Bruce has been by Lucille's side since the day they met until she took her last breath. His love for her was evident.

Lucille owned her own cleaning service. She took a lot of pride in her work and stayed very busy as she had many customers. Most of the time her son, Richard, would work alongside his mom. She loved her customers and usually became close friends with them and her cleaning skills were second to none. She also loved to collect shoe figurines and had quite a big collection. Lucille also loved to cook. She made a mean Chile Verde, but she will always be remembered for her famous homemade salsa! It was a staple at all of our family gatherings.

Lucille was loved by everyone! She maintained personal relationships with each person in her life and she had a way of making each of them feel important and loved. She was the life of the party and definitely knew how to entertain. Wherever Lucille was...there was also laughter. She always spoke her mind and said what we all wanted to say, but weren't brave enough. She also had a way of bringing out the best in people and always showed up for family when it was important.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Mary Lomas, first husband, Arthur Vasquez, brother, Tony Lomas, brother, Robert Lomas, Sister, Rosie Miller, daughter-in-law, Charlene Vasquez, daughter-in-law, Tracy Vasquez and many other loved ones along her journey in life.

Lucille is survived by her husband, Bruce Powers, her 4 sons, Guy Vasquez, Tim Vasquez, James Vasquez, and his wife Tara, Steve, and his wife Sandi; her daughter, Davina Dominguez and her son, Richard Dominguez. Step-sons, Jason Smith and his wife Tricia; Wesley Powers. Sisters, Aurora Ramos, Annette Montijo, Joanna Lomas and Mary Lou Ramirez. Grandchildren, Guy Vasquez Jr., Laci Sephus and her husband Danny; Ashleigh Yoder and her husband Manoah; Brandi Vasquez, Aaron Vasquez, Ciera Vasquez, Karisa Delio and her husband Robert, Dakota Vasquez, Dallas Vasquez and his wife Amanda, Seth Ellebracht, Travis Yarbrough and his wife Lauryn; Jake Vasquez and his wife Lauren; Logan Vasquez, Savannah Vasquez, Sterling Vasquez, McCoy Vasquez, Karys Smith, Griffin Smith, Harley Powers, Maxwell Powers, Magnolia Powers and Leo Powers. Lucille is also survived by her 27 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews and countless other family and friends.

We will miss Lucille dearly. As a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend. Her sense of humor, charisma, spitfire attitude, loving and caring heart and capability to make every single person in her life feel loved, needed and wanted. She is irreplaceable. We rejoice that she is in the arms of Jesus and we can only imagine the celebration that took place when she saw all of her loved ones, who had gone before her, as they were waiting to welcome her into The Kingdom of Heaven.

Until we meet again ....
