BPD: Woman arrested on suspicion of street racing
The Bakersfield Police Department arrested a woman around 7 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Old River Road and White Lane on suspicion of street racing.
According to a BPD news release, Meylin Rosi Barrera was driving a white Chevrolet Camaro and was racing against a black Camaro. Barrera crashed into several cars stopped at White Lane, leaving three adults and one juvenile injured, the agency reported.
Barrera was taken to a hospital where she was arrested and booked into Lerdo jail, according to police. As of Tuesday afternoon, Bacerra is no longer in custody.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing. If anyone has information on the incident, they can contact the BPD at 661-327-7111.
A person was found dead in a house on fire around 7 p.m. Monday in the 2500 block of Cold Creek Avenue in Rosamond, according to the Kern County Fire Department.
Kern firefighters, with the assistance of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, were working to extinguish the fire when the roof of the single-story home partially collapsed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Kern County coroner’s office will release the victim’s name at a later time. A teenage girl went missing around 3 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of A Street, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Melanie Marshall, 16, is described by police as white, 5 feet 3 inches tall and 160 pounds with auburn hair and blue eyes. Anyone with information on Marshall’s whereabouts can call the Bakersfield Police Department at 661-327-7111.
