Glennville Rodeo ready to ride this weekend

It will be time to cowboy up this weekend in Glennville with the return of the annual rodeo.

Conceived in 1948 by the Greenhorn Mountain Veterans Associatio­n and first held in 1949, the Glennville Rodeo remains a big draw for the small community with events planned all weekend.

On Friday, a ranch rodeo will be held at 10 a.m. with four-man calf branding, two-man sorting, two-man sort and rope, reverse team roping, and steer stopping.

At 6 p.m, a taco dinner and concert with Boone’s Farm Trio will be held. Tickets are $15 per person.

Saturday’s GMVA team roping event begins at 9:15 a.m.

That evening, a steak dinner will be held at 6 p.m. that includes a performanc­e by The Soda Crackers. Tickets are $25 per person. Text 661910-1165 for advance tickets.

Cowboy Church in the GMVA Hall kicks off Sunday’s events at 9 a.m. The annual parade along Highway 155 follows at 11 a.m.

Billed the “biggest one-day rodeo in the nation,” the Profession­al Rodeo Cowboys Associatio­n Glennville Rodeo begins at 1 p.m., announced by Anthony Lucia. Pro rodeo entertainm­ent will also be provided by Matt Merritt.

The Miss Rodeo Glennville pageant will also be held this weekend.

Vendors will be out for the event throughout the weekend. Dry camping is available on a first come, first served basis.

The GMVA Park is located at 196 Pascoe Road in Glennville.

The GMVA is a nonprofit organizati­on seeking to “promote social activity and community welfare” in the mountain communitie­s of Woody, Granite Station, Posey and Glennville, according to the event’s website.
