No. 5 Ok­la­homa beats No. 9 Texas for Big 12 ti­tle

Kyler Mur­ray threw for 379 yards and three touch­downs as No. 5 Ok­la­homa beat No. 9 Texas 39-27 in the Big 12 cham­pi­onship game Satur­day, with the Soon­ers aveng­ing their only loss and mak­ing their case for a re­turn to the Col­lege Foot­ball Play­off.

Mur­ray, the Heis­man Tro­phy-con­tend­ing du­althreat quar­ter­back, threw two of his TDs to Grant Cal­caterra. That in­cluded an im­pres­sive 18-yard score on a third-and-10 play with two min­utes left as the Soon­ers (12-1, No. 5 CFP) won their sev­enth con­sec­u­tive game de­spite be­ing held to fewer than 40 points for the first time in nine games.

Sam Eh­linger was 23of-36 pass­ing for 349 yards with two touch­downs, and he also ran for two scores for Texas (9-4), but his fi­nal pass was picked off by Tre Nor­wood at the 1 in the fi­nal minute.

Con­fer­ence cham­pi­onship games

Amer­i­can Ath­letic, No. 7 UCF 56, Mem­phis 41: Darriel Mack shrugged off two early turnovers to rush for three sec­ond-half touch­downs and rally UCF to a 56-41 vic­tory over Mem­phis.

Con­fer­ence USA, UAB 27, Mid­dle Ten­nessee 25: Spencer Brown ran for 156 yards and a touch­down, and the Blaz­ers, who re­in­stated their pro­gram last season af­ter a two-year hia­tus, beat Mid­dle Ten­nessee at Murfrees­boro, Tenn.

Sun­belt, Ap­palachian State 30, Louisiana-Lafayette 19: Zac Thomas had two long touch­down runs, and Ap­palachian State de­feated LouisianaLafayette at Boone, N.C.

Stan­ford 23, Cal­i­for­nia 13: Cameron Scar­lett caught a short pass from K.J. Costello and raced 46 yards for one of his two touch­downs, Paul­son Adebo in­ter­cepted two passes and Stan­ford re­lied on its de­fense to win its ninth straight Big Game, this one at Berke­ley, Calif.

No. 10 Wash­ing­ton 10, No. 17 Utah 3: By­ron Mur­phy re­turned a de­flected in­ter­cep­tion 66 yards for the game’s only touch­down to lead No. 10 Wash­ing­ton to a vic­tory over No. 17 Utah in an of­fen­sively chal­lenged Pac-12 cham­pi­onship game at Santa Clara, Calif.
