Beaufort, South Carolina - Emily Hope Abell, 24, of Beaufort, SC, died Thursday, April 18, 2024.

The family will receive mourners on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Anderson Funeral Home, 611 Robert Smalls Pkwy, Beaufort, SC 29906, followed by a graveside service and interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery at 4:30pm.

Emily was born on April 7, 2000 in Lemoore, CA. She is the daughter of Brian Abell (USMC Ret) and stepmother Shawnna Abell and her mother, Millicent Spond Conner (USN).

Emily graduated from Princeton Community High School in Princeton, IN in 2018, then earned a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security and Public Safety from Vincennes University. At the time of her passing, Emily was in the process of completing her Master’s Degree in Emergency Management from Columbia Southern University.

After completing college, Emily relocated to Beaufort and began a career as an Emergency Dispatcher for the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, where she excelled and was beloved by her colleagues.

Emily was a beautiful, passionate, loving and empathetic person who was known to set her own needs aside to help others, Emily’s smile and laugh were intoxicati­ng, and her ebullient enthusiasm was a powerful and uplifting source of joy. She possessed a giving spirit and selfless nature that were revered by her family, friends and colleagues. Emily was swift and eager to offer a helping hand, words of support and allyship. She was a fierce advocate for women’s rights who believed in equality and representa­tion, and she held steadfast on her opinion while defending her stance with undeniable facts and inspiring passion. She spoke up for what she believed in and always stood up for the underdog. In so many ways, she represente­d hope to those who were blessed to know her. She brought love and comfort into so many people’s lives in her short 24 years. She will be missed tremendous­ly and indefinite­ly.

Surviving in addition to her parents and her stepmother; step-sister, Ella Rose Wedgewood, grandmothe­r, Sue Giebler, grandfathe­r, Stephen Abell Sr., Uncle Stephen Abell Jr., wife, Kathryn, cousins Tyler and Sean, Uncle Andy Spond, wife, Michelle, cousins Sarah and Eric as well as numerous other family members. Emily was preceded in death by grandmothe­r, Mary Abell and grandfathe­r, Russ Giebler.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to emulate Emily’s giving spirit by making donation to a women’s rights organizati­on in her memory. Suggestion­s include National Organizati­on for Women, the Women Leaders in Law Enforcemen­t Foundation, RAINN and Planned Parenthood.
