Emma Sweetman

WYCKOFF - SWEETMAN, Emma Marie (Witten), age 96, of Wyckoff, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 31, 2023. Emma was born in Haledon to George and Emma (Edson) Witten before moving to Wyckoff in 1952, where she raised her family with her beloved husband Edwin Sweetman, who predeceased her in 2009. She and Ed cherished 62 years of a loving marriage together. Emma poured her love and guidance into raising their 6 children and taking care of the house that she and Ed built. Emma was a lifetime member of Rockpoint Community Church in North Haledon, formerly Covenant Christian Reformed Church. Emma loved her church and was a faithful and dedicated servant. She worked as a school bus driver for 30 years. In her retirement, Emma volunteered at Ditto until she was 93, a resale store that benefits Eastern Christian Schools, and was a prior member of the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Wyckoff Fire Dept.

Beloved mother of Linda Sweetman Waters and her husband Don, Ruth Rhodes and her husband Greg, Edwin Sweetman and his wife Barbara, Nelson Sweetman and his wife Heather, Yvonne Balkema and her husband Bruce, and Gail Bushman and her husband David. Loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters Virginia Zimmer and Kathryn Van Dyke. She was predeceased by her granddaughters, Stacey Sulpizi and Lauren Rhodes as well as her siblings George, Ernie, Robert, Lorraine and Charles.

Friends may visit on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 4-8 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Funeral service to be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11 AM at Rockpoint Community Church. Interment will be held privately.
