Giants: Here are our best bets for Sunday

Favor NY against spread even as home underdog against Commanders

The New York Giants (1-5, last in NFC East) head home for the first time in three weeks as they host the Washington Commanders (3-3, third in NFC East) in Week 7 at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Despite being 15.5-point underdogs last Sunday night, the Giants held the Buffalo Bills scoreless for three quarters and had a chance to win on the final play of the game, but fell short in a 14-9 loss at Orchard Park.

The Commanders went to Atlanta as a small underdog and defeated the Falcons 24-16 in Week 6.

Since the beginning of the 2019 season, the Giants-Commanders matchup has always been a close one. In the past eight meetings, six of them have been a one-score game, including a 20-20 tie at MetLife Stadium last season.

Here’s how to bet the spread, moneyline and total for this Week 7 NFC East showdown in the Meadowlands on Sunday.

NY Giants vs. Commanders spread: Giants +2 (-105), Commanders -2 (-108)

Even with the near upset, the Giants enter the week at most sportsbooks as a slight underdog at home.

The G-Men officially covered the spread for the first time this season on Sunday night, but they’re still a disappointing 1-5 against the spread (ATS).

Meanwhile, the Commanders are undefeated ATS on the road, covering in all three games against the aforementioned Falcons, Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles, winning two of those games outright against the Broncos and Falcons.

The books expect this to be a close game, and for good reason given the results of the past few years.

Regardless of whether Daniel Jones is able to suit back up or if it’s Tyrod Taylor under center for the second straight start, I’m betting that the Giants cover for the second straight week, especially as a home underdog.

On Caesars Sportsbook, wager on the Giants to cover the +2 spread at a price of -105 (Bet $105 to win $100).

Prediction: Giants +2

NY Giants vs. Commanders total: Over 39.5 points (-105), Under

39.5 points (-110)

There has not been a better bet in the NFL this season than to take the under in any given game. Through six weeks, unders in the NFL are 56-36-1 (61 percent), the best win rate since 1991. A truly historic rate for the sport.

This included Week 6, where the under was 12-2-1, with only four games having 40 or more points scored in a matchup.

Yet I’m still on the over in this one. Despite each team holding their opponents to 16 or fewer points last weekend, both the Giants and Commanders concede 27.8 or more points per game this season, ranking bottom five in the NFL.

Prior to Week 6, the Commanders had given up 33+ points in four straight games.

While they did play two of the best offenses in the league in the Bills and Eagles during that stretch, more importantly they still gave up 30 or more points to the Broncos and Bears, who have a combined record of 2-10.

This won’t be a shootout of any type but I do believe both these teams, against not-great defenses, can eclipse at least 40 points on Sunday.

The best available price for 40 or more points to be scored is at -105 on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Prediction: Over 39.5 points (-105)

NY Giants vs. Commanders moneyline: Giants (+115), Commanders (-125)

Listen, the playoffs are likely out of the equation for the Giants.

However, if there were any week the Giants should click and put together a full, complete effort in all three phases this season, it has to be against the Commanders.

Regardless of your opinion on Daniel Jones, he’s undoubtedly played the best football of his career versus Washington. He’s 5-1-1 against them and has yet to lose to their divisional foe in the Meadowlands in four years.

Even if Jones is unable to give it a go, Taylor did enough for me last weekend in Buffalo to believe he could lead them to a victory at home against a below-average Commanders defense.

It’ll be another close game between the two NFC East rivals as the Giants get their second victory of the season in a field-goal game.

PointsBet currently has the longest odds for the Giants to get the win at +115 (Bet $100 to win $115).

Prediction: Giants 23, Commanders 20
