BERGENFIEL­D - Ellen Azzarone, 73, of Bergenfiel­d, formerly of Jersey City, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3rd leaving behind a legacy of compassion, kindness, and a profound impact on all of the lives she touched. Born in Hackensack on February 28, 1950, she was the older of two daughters to the late Michael and June (Caruso) Longo. Ellen was a longtime special education teacher who devoted most of her 34-year career to the students at Charles DeWolf Middle School in Old Tappan instilling in them a sense of selfworth and a belief in their potential. She possessed a unique ability to connect with her students. She created a safe and inclusive environmen­t where every child felt valued and supported, no matter their challenges. Her impact on the lives of her students was immeasurab­le. Ellen was a devoted mother, and her children were the center of her world. She showered them with love, encouragem­ent, and the wisdom to navigate life’s obstacles. Her lessons in love, kindness and resilience continue to guide them through their journeys. As a grandmothe­r, Ellen was a source of boundless joy. Her presence in her grandchild­ren’s lives was a treasure filled with lessons, laughter, and love. She celebrated their accomplish­ments with unbridled enthusiasm and was a constant pillar of support. Ellen is survived by her beloved family; husband Louis; children Marisa and Michael; son-in-law Peter Amara; daughter-in-law Jill; grandchild­ren Ava, Michael, Hailey and Anthony; sister Dorothy; brother-in-law Dominic; nephew Anthony; niece Kathryn, great niece and nephew, Kaylee and Nicholas; all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts. Family and friends may gather on Friday, November 10th from 3-7pm at Barrett Leber Funeral Home. 148 Dean Drive, Tenafly, NJ. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 11th at 10am at St. John the Evangelist Church in Bergenfiel­d, NJ. Please join us in honoring her memory and sharing the stories that reflect the love and light she brought to our lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to FRA, Family Resource Associates, in Ellen’s memory. Ellen believed in making the world a better place for children with special needs, and your contributi­ons will help to continue her mission.
