John Stanislaus Wisneski, Jr.

WILMINGTON - Jack Wisneski rebounded from several health setbacks over two and a half years. Sadly, his ninth life expired on November 18, 2023.

We wish we could say he died and went to heaven, but that happened when he found himself at a Wilmington, NC nursing facility in August 2022. His final months combined some of his favorite activities - solitude, reclining, TV watching, and snacking. Remote in one hand and a Snickers in the other, Jack was living his best life...at least for this last phase of his 75 years.

Born on December 2, 1947 and raised in Maywood, Jack graduated from Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, attended Marian University in Indianapolis, and served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

Ramsey held a special place in his heart. It is where he met his wife, Gail Brickman. They attended his prom together in 1965, wed at St. John’s Memorial Episcopal Church in 1972, and moved there from Midland Park in 2004. Ramsey is home to Kinchley’s Tavern, where many family memories were made and which he had requested for his upcoming 76th birthday. And, Ramsey is where he ended his career - which included co-owning Wisneski Furniture Delivery, telemarketing (“smile and dial”), and umpiring and refereeing youth sports - as a beloved local crossing guard.

Jack’s interests were focused - food, sports, good deals (“priced right”), and loved ones. He was an avid gardener, an ice cream aficionado, a reader of Tom Clancy, a life-long Yankees fan, a hot tub enthusiast, and an ace at Spades. He was kind, witty, and patient.

He is survived by Gail, his wife of 51 years, and children, Eric Wisneski (Kellie Celia) and Kirsten Wisneski (Ata Suanda). He was predeceased by his cats - Winnie, George, Merlin, Chastity, Aussie, and Winston - and is survived by his cat Quinn.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff at both Trinity Grove and Liberty HomeCare & Hospice Service, who supported Jack - and our entire family - with the utmost care, consideration, and compassion. Even, and especially, after he entered his “f- it” era - a sense of humor until the end!

Jack was cremated, releasing and returning his soul to the elements so he can be around us always. A celebration of life is forthcoming. In his memory, donations can be made to the Ramsey Softball Association, the National Foundation for Animal Rescue, and the Trinity Grove Emergency Staff Fund. Or, you can buy yourself a couple of scratch-off tickets.
