RIVERDALE - Elminah Gordon, 98, of Riverdale, NY, died February 11, 2024. Ms. Gordon was born in Hanover Parish, Jamaica in 1925 to David and Eliza Gordon. After attending school there, she was a successful applicant in a competitive nurse’s aide program to secure work in the US. She emigrated in 1967, residing in New Rochelle NY and later Washington Heights, NYC. She worked as a nurse’s aide, nanny, and housekeeper for numerous families in and around Ridgewood, NJ for over 40 years, where she was universally beloved by her employers, their children, and the community. A deeply religious, moral standard-bearer, she was also deeply joyful, a fan of the New York Yankees, dancing, and any reason to enjoy a good joke or story. Her love knew no bounds and her humor, unwavering strength, and professionalism set straight all who knew her. In her last two years, at the Methodist Home for Nursing in Riverdale, she was affectionately known as ‘the Director,’ ‘the Ambassador,’ or the ‘staff nutritionist.’ Ms. Gordon was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers, Aaron Gordon and Moses Gordon, and is survived by her first cousin Winefred G.
