Congrats to the North Jersey students from Paterson, Mahwah schools

The poll opens Mondays at 5 a.m. and closes Thursdays at 5 p.m. On Fridays, we announce the top two vote-getters as students of the week, featuring their stories online and in print in The Record on Sundays and our weekly newspapers.
Amina Pleasant, senior, Paterson P-Tech High School
Amina won with the most votes, 24,766. She has garnered national recognition from the College Board, earning prestigious awards like the National African American Recognition Award and the National Indigenous Award. Amina’s dedication to academics is matched by her involvement in various school organizations.
Notably, she captivated her peers and community members with her poetry presentation during the school’s Black History Month celebration.
Beyond her academic achievements, Amina devotes her time to service projects and plays a pivotal role in organizing STEM events and workshops at the Paterson Museum and Great Falls National Park.
Despite her busy schedule, she consistently maintains excellent grades and attendance, showcasing her commitment to her education and community.
Amina is a shining example of dedication, leadership and academic excellence.
Connor Yturregui, sophomore, Mahwah High School
Connor gathered 19,239 votes. He takes initiative in a way seldom seen. He comes to rehearsals early, takes attendance, offers constructive feedback, builds the sets, proposes fundraising ideas.
He truly cares about the Drama Club and wants to make it the best it can possibly be.
He is dedicated to the theater program and a member of the Business Administration Career Pathway.
