Congress is a non-working entity
Members of Congress like to talk about how they are fighting for the middle class. But there are no concrete results. Just a lot of talk.
How about starting with “common sense.” Republicans ought to admit that there are too many tax loopholes for the economic elite (oligarchy) and corporations. That’s called “crony capitalism.” When corporations can get away with not paying a dollar of taxes and receive revenue instead, the system is corrupt. Let the corporations (not small business) and the very wealthy pay their fair share, and with those realized revenues, let’s give it back to the middle class ($250,000 or less income). How? It’s simple:
● No more special tax credits and tax breaks to segments of society; an across-the-board tax cut is what is needed, and do it on a graduated scale.
● Anyone 65 years or older should not have their pensions taxed and their fixed incomes stolen (using income threshold as a factor).
That’s not a tall order to follow. The entire New Jersey congressional delegation ought to co-sponsor a bill that achieves this objective, then get it voted on and enacted into law. Not one more year should pass without some major fixing. And state governments throughout the country need to follow the same approach.
Stop supporting the unnecessary wars and arms/military weapons contributions to the war sponsors. Besides being crimes against humanity, the United States has more than $33 trillion in debt. How long can this go on without some major repercussions for everyone?
Our congressional delegation ought to act now on introducing legislation that will cut taxes for the middle class, including those who are 65 and older. Deborah Smarth Manalapan
