Anthony Catanzaro
CLIFTON - Anthony Catanzaro, Jr. (October 26, 1949 - March 24, 2024) Anthony Catanzaro, Jr., aged 74, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2024, at Lincoln Park Care Center. Born in Passaic, NJ, and raised in Clifton, Anthony’s early years were marked by academic and athletic achievements, notably at St. Peter’s Prep, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. His passion for understanding the universe led him to study physics at Columbia University, a testament to his intellectual curiosity.
Anthony’s career was highlighted by notable experiences, from meeting Yogi Berra while conducting real estate evaluations to contributing his talents at Bell Systems, and even venturing into the creative realm of board game design. Beyond his professional life, Anthony found joy in music, often expressing himself through the strings of his treasured Martin guitar.
Later in life, Anthony faced significant challenges due to Schizophrenia, an illness that profoundly affected his path. His family and friends have deeply felt the impact of his struggles, mourning the potential and possibilities that were overshadowed by his illness.
In his final months, Anthony experienced a meaningful reconnection with his son and daughter, fostering moments of closure and understanding. This reconnection, though brief, was significant, highlighting the intricate nature of family ties and the possibility of reconciliation, however late it may arrive.
Anthony was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Rose (nee La Barba) Catanzaro, and his brothers, S. Vincent and, presumed, Phillip Catanzaro.
He is survived by his son, Vincent Catanzaro (wife Cynthia), and their daughter, Aurélia Rosalie Catanzaro, of Ogden, Utah; his daughter, Danielle Catanzaro of Buffalo, NY, and her children, David Hammoud, Daniel Hammoud, Elliot Hammoud, and Liliana Hammoud; and his ex-wife, Beth Colon.
A private memorial will be held by the family this Autumn. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the National Alliance on Mental Illness or to your local food pantry or homeless shelter.
