Job­less Claims Dip to a Fresh 48-Year Low

Fil­ings for U.S. unem­ploy­ment ben­e­fits de­clined to a fresh 48-year low for the sec­ond straight week, un­der­scor­ing a tight job mar­ket, La­bor De­part­ment fig­ures showed Thurs­day.

Job­less claims de­creased by 1,000 to 204,000 (es­ti­mates were for 210,000), the low­est since De­cem­ber 1969, from 205,000 (re­vised from 203,000).

Con­tin­u­ing claims fell by 15,000 to 1.696 mil­lion in week ended Sept. 1, the low­est since late 1973 (data re­ported with one-week lag).
