ConcordCar­lisle cruises in Div. 2

Tianlin Zhang, a Globe golf AllScholas­tic as a sophomore after earning Division 2 North sectional medalist honors last fall, beat his score from a year ago by two strokes at this year’s edition. And he didn’t even win. His teammate, sophomore Jack Kingman, was the medalist with a 1-over-par 70 at Hillview Golf Course in North Reading, one better than Zhang.

The pair were part of a six-golfer contingent from Concord-Carlisle in which each individual qualified for the state tournament next Monday. The Patriots also took home the team title with an aggregate score of 290, 10 shots better than second-place North Andover. Belmont (302) finished third.

“I’ve never seen a team score that low,” said tournament director Bill Adams.

Sean Morahan tied for sixth with a round of 73, while the trio of Drew Benshoff, Jack Gardner, and Chris Shieh all shot 76. Division 1 North — St. John’s Prep’s Steven Dilisio garnered medalist honors with a round of 1under 69. The Eagles also won the team competitio­n with a combined score of 298 at Bradford CC. Division 1 South — Braintree sophomore Erik MacDonald was the individual champion, shooting a 3-under 69 at Brookmeado­w Country Club in Canton. Xaverian (328) won the team title. Division 2 South — Oliver Ames’s score of 310 was enough to win at Easton Country Club, edging Walpole by a shot. Medfield’s Dan Neidermire took home individual honors with a 1-over 72. Division 3 North — Weston’s Ben Warner, a Globe All-Scholastic last fall, was the medalist with a 1-over 73 at Far Corner Golf Club inWest Boxford. Arlington Catholic won the team title with a 308. Division 3 South — Dover-Sherborn’s Paul Parrish was medalist with a round of 77 at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis. D-S (325) also won the team title. Cohasset was second with 335. Division 3 Cape Cod — Ben Lukowitz (Martha’s Vineyard) and Marshall Shaffar-Roggeveen (Nantucket) were the co-medalists with rounds of 4-over 75 at Dennis Highlands Golf Course. Martha’s Vineyard took home the team title thanks to a tiebreaker with Monomoy. Both teams shot 316.

Boys’ soccer

Silver Lake 5, St. John’s Prep 1 — Paul Beatty led the way with two goals for the No. 4 Lakers (15-0-1) against the No. 7 Eagles (13-2-2). Wilmington 2, Wakefield 0 — Goalie Luke Foley made 10 saves for his 10th shutout of the season for the No. 11 Wildcats (14-1-1).

Girls’ soccer

Notre Dame (Hingham) 2, Hingham 1— Keeley Macafee and Gabby Kenyon each scored for the sixth-ranked Cougars (13-1). Lowell Catholic 4, St. Joseph’s Prep 0 — Molly Hutchins scored a pair of goals as the No. 16 Fighting Crusaders (12-1-1) clinched the Catholic Central Small title for the third consecutiv­e year. Mystic Valley 1, Minuteman 0 — Junior Sam Rizzo scored her 12th goal of the season to help the Eagles earn the Commonweal­th Athletic Conference title.

Field hockey

Watertown 4, LincolnSud­bury 0 — Junior Rachel Campbell scored a pair of goals to lead the fifthranke­d Raiders (16-0).

Girls’ volleyball

Bishop Fenwick 3, Central Catholic 2 — The Raiders took the No. 3 Crusaders (15-1) to five sets for the first time this season. Tessa McLaughlin had a career-high 50 assists for Bishop Fenwick.

Football

St. John’s Prep senior running back Johnathan Thomas has changed his college choice and will attend Penn State. Thomas, who injured his knee and is out for the year, had given a verbal commitment to Maryland.
