GEORGILAS, James Christophe­r Jr. “Jimmy”

Age 75, of Whitman, MA, passed away peacefully on August 6, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Born in Cambridge, MA, in 1947 and son to James Georgilas and Rosemary (Hillier) Georgilas, he spent his youth in Hyde Park. Jimmy graduated from Boston University with a Master’s Degree in Criminolog­y. He later went on to become a well-respected professor of Sociology and Criminolog­y at Curry College.

A retired lieutenant of the Boston Police Department and Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War, Jimmy has devoted his entire life to serving, protecting, and helping others. He was a well-respected Lieutenant for his 40-year career on the Boston Police Department, earning him an induction into the Boston Police Wall of Fame. Jimmy’s innate dedication to serve as well as his incredible valor and strength, earned him the honor of Bronze Star Medal during the Vietnam War. This honor was bestowed for ensuring all his fellow soldiers, as well as fallen heroes, were not left behind. With Jimmy, no one was ever left behind.

Jimmy truly enjoyed life and his family was his greatest pride. Jimmy took joy in all things in life and led his life with love and gratitude. Some of his most enjoyable pastimes included caring for his family, playing piano, endless home projects, running marathons, and hiking with his daughter, Stacy; boating with his son, Jason; enjoying meals with friends, and caring for his many dogs, cats, and animals throughout the years.

A devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend; Jimmy leaves behind many well-loved family and friends. He was preceded in death only five days earlier by his loving wife of 52 years and soul mate, Linda Sue (Dickson) Georgilas of Whitman. He was also preceded in death by his loving son, Jason Christophe­r Georgilas of Whitman. Jimmy is survived by his loving daughter, Stacy Georgilas of Whitman. He leaves behind his sister, Christine Rozett-Georgilas of North Reading. Jimmy is also survived by many other family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Tuesday, August 9, from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary), WHITMAN, and his Graveside Service on Wednesday, August 10, at 11:00 AM in the Colebrook Cemetery, Essex Street, Whitman.
