Of Salem, died August 4, 2022 at Massachuse­tts General Hospital in Salem after a long battle with cancer. His devoted family was by his side. Arthur was born in 1941 in Boston to Phyllis Johnson O’Hara and Arthur J. O’Hara, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Philip M. O’Hara; and sister, Janice E. O’Hara.

Arthur graduated from Mission Church High School in 1959, after which he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the 3rd Armored Division. He was stationed in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. Later he worked for the Boston Globe, retiring after 35 years of service. Arthur was an avid reader and student of all things “Boston”, especially sports and politics.

Arthur, “Artie” to his family and many friends, had a deep and abiding devotion to his family and they to him. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Zahr O’Hara, who has been a tireless advocate for his health care over the last five years. Priscilla and Arthur traveled extensivel­y during their 45 years of marriage, but the most cherished destinatio­n for the past 27 years has been their annual family vacation in the White Mountains with daughter, Christine O’Hara Beane and son-in-law, James Beane of Swampscott; grandson, James W. Beane, Jr. of Salem; and granddaugh­ter, Tessa Beane Garozzo and her husband, Paul Garozzo of Tewksbury.

Arthur also leaves his brothe,r Mark E. O’Hara and wife, Jean of Summervill­e, NC; sister, Joanne E. O’Hara and partner, Ed McCarthy of Medford, MA; and brother, Robert O’Hara of Exeter, NH; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visiting Hours: His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 10, at the Church of the Holy Name, 60 Monument Ave., Swampscott, at 11 A.M. Burial will follow in Swampscott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in his name to Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center, 102 Endicott Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
