JACOBANIS, Francis W.

Died on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at his home in West Barnstable.

He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Mary (Shephard) Jacobanis, formerly of West Roxbury and the devoted father of Carol of New York and Michael of Castle Pines, CO.

He was preceded in death by his younger siblings, Virginia Murphy and Lawrence Jacobanis.

He was born in Medford and attended St. Clements School before relocating to Hyde Park. He was active in scouting and was an Eagle Scout. He left Hyde Park High School to attend Massachuse­tts Maritime Academy and graduated Class of ’45.

He was a WWII Navy Veteran and served as an assistant engineerin­g officer on USS Whitney AD-4 in the Pacific.

Upon returning from the service, he attended Massachuse­tts Institute of Technology and graduated Class of ’51 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Transporta­tion.

He enjoyed a lengthy career in the marine department of the Atlantic Richfield Company in Philadelph­ia and Los Angeles and retired as a senior vice president of ARCO Marine, Inc.

Mr. Jacobanis was a charter member of the VFW William D. Doyle Post 7421, as well as a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and the American Bureau of Shipping.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 11, from 10:30 – 11:30 AM in Our Lady of Hope Chapel, Rt. 6A, West Barnstable, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM. Burial in Massachuse­tts National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Francis may be made to the Visiting Nurse Associatio­n of Cape Cod-Hospice, 255 Independen­ce Dr., Hyannis, MA 02601.
