Top 25 poll shuffled one last time

Michigan moved up to No. 2 in the Associated Press college football poll Sunday, with TCU at No. 3 and Southern California at No. 4 behind top-ranked Georgia after four top-10 teams lost on the final day of regularsea­son games. The Bulldogs (12-0) are No. 1 for the eighth straight week. Michigan (12-0) reached a seasonhigh No. 2 after beating Ohio State, which dropped the Buckeyes to No. 5. TCU (12-0) has its highest ranking since reaching No. 2 in 2015, and USC (11-1) has its best ranking this late in the season since finishing 2016 at No. 3 . . . Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell informed his team that he is leaving the school, paving the way for him to become the head coach at Wisconsin. A person with knowledge of Fickell’s decision told AP that assistant Kerry Coombs was being named interim coach.

BC men’s basketball tops URI

Devin McGlockton hit the go-ahead layup and iced the game with a pair of free throws a minute later and Boston College defeated Rhode Island, 53-49. Jaeden Zackery scored 16 points for Boston College (5-2) and McGlockton finished with 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Makai Ashton-Langford had 9 points, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. T.J. Bickerstaf­f had 10 rebounds. Brayon Freeman scored 21 points for the Rams (2-5)... Ahmad Rand’s 12 points helped Milwaukee defeat Boston University, 67-46. The Terriers (4-3) were led by Walter Whyte, who finished with 12 points, while Malcolm Chimezie added 10 points and seven rebounds ... Darius Quisenberr­y’s 18 points and five steals helped Fordham (6-1) defeat Harvard, 68-60. Samuel Silverstei­n led the Crimson (5-2) with 17 points . . . Azzi Fudd scored 24 points and Aaliyah Edwards added 20 points and 13 rebounds to rally the UConn women (5-0) past Iowa, 86-79, in the championsh­ip game of the first Phil Knight Legacy tournament in Portland, Ore.

TENNIS Canada wins first Davis Cup

Canada won the Davis Cup title for the first time, beating Australia behind victories from Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime in Malaga, Spain. Auger-Aliassime secured the title when he downed Alex de Minaur, 6-3, 6-4, after Shapovalov opened the day by topping Thanasi Kokkinakis, 6-2, 6-4.

MISCELLANY Smith captures Australian PGA

British Open champion Cameron Smith won the Australian PGA Championsh­ip for the third time by closing with a 3-under-par 68 for a three-shot victory. The final round at Royal Queensland was halted twice by electrical storms that sent players and about 10,000 fans searching for cover . . . Brittany Howard and Michela Cava each scored two goals as the Toronto Six defeated the Boston Pride, 7-3, in a Premier Hockey Federation game at Warrior Arena . . . Lindsay Whalen, who helped the Minnesota Lynx win four WNBA championsh­ips, will be inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame next spring as part of a five-member class . . . Marco Odermatt is already living up to his billing as the favorite for the overall World Cup title, beating Aleksander Aamodt Kilde to win a super-G at Lake Louise, Alberta, for his second victory in three races this season.
