Four people were shot — two of them fatally — in at least three shootings across Boston on Sunday night, police said.

Two victims, including one who died, were shot in Mattapan, police said. Another shooting occurred in an unknown location, and that victim took himself to a local hospital, where he later died. The fourth victim was shot downtown and also took themselves to the hospital for injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening, according to police.

“Tonight, we had a pretty violent night in the city,” Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox told reporters near the Mattapan scene Sunday night, according to audio provided by the Boston Police Department.

“It’s very early in the investigation and we’re not exactly sure how they’re related, if they’re related at all,” he said of the shootings.

Officers were called to 66 Wildwood St. in Mattapan at 8:32 p.m. for a report of a shooting and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, Boston Police Superintendent Felipe Colon told reporters. Both men were taken by Boston EMS to a local hospital.

“Unfortunately, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries,” Colon said. “The second victim is in critical condition.”

As police were working at that scene, a third victim from an unknown location arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, Colon said.

“We’re fairly confident that it is not connected to this scene, but that’s an active investigation,” Colon said, referencing the Mattapan shooting.

A short time later, a fourth victim, this time from a shooting on Kingston Street in downtown Boston, reported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound, police said. His injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, according to Sergeant Detective John Boyle, chief spokesperson for the Boston Police Department.

The shootings are under investigation. No arrests were reported. No further information was immediately available late Sunday night.
