Son of N.H. lawmaker drowns while fishing
Wife survives after their small boat capsizes in pond
The son of a New Hampshire state representative drowned Saturday while fishing with his wife after their boat capsized in a pond in Seabrook, N.H., officials said.
The body of 26-year-old Justin Janvrin was recovered shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. His wife was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. Both are residents of Seabrook, officials said.
Janvrin was the son of New Hampshire state Representative Jason Janvrin, a Facebook post from the lawmaker stated.
“I want to publicly thank the conservation officers who responded to this tragedy,” wrote the Republican, who represents Rockingham District 40. “I am thankful that you were able to bring my son home. Your professionalism and communication to the family was of the highest level.”
Justin Janvrin’s wife, Chantel Avis Janvrin, also expressed her thanks to conservation officers who responded to the tragedy.
“You guys acted fast and were very comforting in this hard time,” she wrote on Facebook. “My husband meant the world to me and I’m so glad you brought his body home for us. For everyone who has asked about the other boater[,] that was me. I’m doing as well as I can be. Thank you for your concern.”
Seabrook police said Justin Janvrin was reported to be a good swimmer but was wearing boots and a heavy jacket but not a life jacket.
Chantel Avis Janvrin and a witness called 911 after their small boat capsized and Justin Janvrin disappeared in the water at Tri-Town Pond, officials said. The pond is in the Seabrook Town Forest off Old New Boston Road, just over the state line in New Hampshire, a few miles north of Amesbury.
New Hampshire Fish and Game divers responded and were directed to the approximate area where Justin Janvrin went under, officials said.
His body was located shortly after divers entered the pond, Seabrook police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
