KALLOCH, James Albert “Jim”

-

Age 82, of South Hamilton, MA, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, surrounded by loved ones. He was a good father, spouse, son, sibling, friend, teacher and citizen. We will miss him.

Born in Hatfield, MA, he was the third child of five born to John and Katharine (Day) Kalloch. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in 1963 and Masters degrees from Florida Atlantic University (1973) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (1978).

He began his professional career in 1965, teaching the children of immigrant farmworkers at the Warfield School in Indiantown, Florida. It was a formative experience for Jim – he learned from his students as much as he taught – and it set the stage for a lifetime of service, including 33 years teaching chemistry at Swampscott High School.

It was in Swampscott, where he met a young math whiz from Lee, MA, Susan Airoldi. In time, she persuaded Jim to ask her to marry him, and they shared 50 wonderful years together.

Jim is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Andrew Lee Kalloch (Jenna Adams-Kalloch) of Eugene, OR and Sarah Day Kalloch (Doug Maxfield) of Ipswich, MA; grandchildren, Selma Abigail, Leona Susan and Hamilton James Adams-Kalloch; siblings,

Henry Kalloch (Beverly Kalloch), Katherine Stinson (Gordon Stinson) and Rosemary Kalloch (Christine Czekanski). He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Pernice.

A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held at The First Church in Wenham on Tuesday, December 19, at 11 AM, with a reception to follow. Relatives, friends, and community members are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s memory to the Heifer Project at www.heifer.org Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., BEVERLY.
