BROCKTON — Gunfire broke out early Tuesday in this city’s normally quiet West Side neighborhood, leaving a woman with multiple bullet wounds in the driveway and a man inside the home dead in an apparent murder-suicide, officials said.

The violence was reported around 1 a.m. Tuesday at 524 Ash St. Police were alerted that a deceased man was in the house and that a neighbor heard gunshots, according to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office.

Arriving officers discovered 56-year-old Sheron Trowers in the driveway of the single family home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, prosecutors said. She was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, prosecutors said.

Trowers was a murder victim, prosecutors said.

Police entered the home and found the body of 61-year-old Carlos Brown, who had shot himself in the head, prosecutors said.

Yellow police tape was draped across the street in front of a single family home with solar panels and two SUVs parked in the driveway as the incident remains under investigation by State and Brockton police.

Neighbors said they were stunned by the violence in their neighborhood where gunfire is a rare occurrence.

One neighbor told The Boston Globe that she was familiar with Brown.

Records filed with Plymouth Probate and Family Court in 2019 listed Trowers and Brown as the parents of an 18-year-old daughter.

One neighbor who spoke to the Globe on Tuesday had positive words for Brown.

“He was a great guy. Always outside in his yard or working on his car,” the neighbor said. “He was very nice, very polite.”

No further information about the couple was immediately available Tuesday.

Another murder was reported in Brockton over the weekend.

On Sunday, police responded to 36 Hoover Ave. where they found 27-year-old Sederick Abreu suffering from gunshot wounds. His brother, identified as 20-year-old Jeremiah Abreu, was arrested Tuesday in Maine and will face a murder charge after he’s brought back to Massachusetts, authorities said.

Two men who were in the home during the search were arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court where they pleaded not guilty to accessory to murder charges, records show.
