The James Beard Foundation announced the finalists for its 2024 Restaurant and Chef Awards recently. The 33rd annual ceremony will be held on June 10 in Chicago.

Dorchester’s Comfort Kitchen is a Best New Restaurant finalist, honoring excellence in food, atmosphere, hospitality, and operations, while contributing positively to its broader community. It received a five-star Globe rating in December.

Best Chef: Northeast nominees are Conor Dennehy from Cambridge’s Talulla; Maria Meza from Dolores in Providence; David Standridge from The Shipwright’s Daughter in Mystic, Conn.; Jake Stevens from Leeward in Portland, Maine; and Cara Tobin from Honey Road in Burlington, Vt.

In Portland, Maine, a trio of nods: ZU Bakery was named to the Outstanding Bakery list; Atsuko Fujimoto from Norimoto Bakery was named to the Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker list; and Woodford

Food & Beverage earned an Outstanding Hospitality nod. In Montpelier, Vt., Barr Hill Cocktail Bar is in the running for Outstanding Bar.

Renee Toupounce from The Port of Call in Mystic, Conn., is an Outstanding Chef finalist. Finally, Chris Viaud is an Outstanding Restaurateur finalist. Viaud runs Ansanm, Greenleaf, and Pavilion in Milford and Wolfeboro, N.H.

Viaud, who specializes in Haitian cuisine, was a semifinalist in 2022 as well, though he didn’t make it to the finals. At the time, Viaud told the Globe that the recognition put him on the map.

“That was a motivation for me to continue, to just push myself and keep grinding even though I knew that I didn’t get the finalist,” he said. “People are watching and people are realizing and I’m just going to keep going at it.”
