Patrick Clancy, whose three young children were killed at their home in January 2023, completed the Boston Marathon on Monday in their memory.

The Duxbury resident crossed the finish line in 3 hours, 59 minutes and 19 seconds, with his final mile (8:31) his fastest of the afternoon.

“It felt amazing to cross the finish line,” Clancy said. “It was a lot of work to get here, and it is a big accomplishment.”

Clancy was running on behalf of “Miles for Miracles,” the Boston Children’s Hospital’s fund-raising initiative for the Boston Marathon.

On Jan. 24, 2023, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 7 months, were allegedly strangled by their mother, Lindsay Clancy, and later pronounced dead.

Lindsay Clancy, who jumped out of a second-floor window after allegedly attacking her children, has been held at Tewksbury State Hospital, where she has been undergoing psychiatric care since last year. She has been charged with three counts each of murder and strangulation.

“In the short time they were here, my kids brought me so much joy and couldn’t have made their dad prouder,” Clancy said in the fund-raiser’s blog post. “It goes without saying that losing them has been devastating, and it’s a heartbreak that I’ll live with forever, but I’ve committed myself to honoring their memory by trying to bring positive change.”

Clancy’s run raised over $72,000 for Boston Children’s Hospital, nearly tripling his original goal of $25,000. Callan, his youngest son, was treated at BCH shortly before he was pronounced dead.

“Callan spent his last moments in my arms before he passed at Boston Children’s Hospital.” Clancy wrote in the blog post. “Although I wished so badly for a different outcome, I was overwhelmed by the compassion and professionalism of the doctors and nurses in the ICU. They gave me a little more time with my boy and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”

Clancy ran with the names of his three children written on a sign taped to his back, and was emotional upon finishing the race.

“I think we are going to save a lot of children’s lives and save a lot of heartache for parents,” Clancy said.

Lindsay Clancy’s next court date is scheduled for May 28.
