Man, 19, arrested on gun charge after pursuit in Mattapan

A 19-year-old Randolph man was arrested tuesday for allegedly carrying a loaded gun in Mattapan and at one point “went limp” in an effort to escape police and responding paramedics, police said.

Around 8:15 p.m., police received a report of a large group causing a disturbance and blocking traffic on River Street. the first officer who arrived was greeted with hostility from the crowd, police said in a statement.

“She was quickly surrounded by the group who then began to jump on the hood of her cruiser,” police said. numerous officers “converged on the area to disperse the crowd.”

Officers told the group they had to leave but they remained confrontational, police said. Officers saw one person, later identified as nick St. Jilus, walk to a car and place a backpack inside, police said.

“Officers approached the suspect and attempted to speak with him,” police said. “the suspect ignored officers and attempted to flee,” but police caught him and also searched the car.

Officers found a gun in the vehicle and tried to place St. Jilus in handcuffs, police said.

“the suspect immediately went limp, and officers requested boston eMS to respond to the scene,” police said. “eMts attempted to place the suspect onto a medical gurney, but he then attempted to flee. Officers quickly gained control of the suspect, and placed him in a marked cruiser to be transported for booking.”

the recovered gun was a century Arms tP9 with 26 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, police said.

the man was booked on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, trespassing, and resisting arrest, police said.

Arraignment information wasn’t immediately available and it wasn’t clear if St. Jilus had retained counsel who could speak on his behalf.
