Avalanche win in OT vs. Stars

the colorado Avalanche had their first three-goal comeback in a playoff game since 1997 when Miles Wood scored with a hard charge and a backhander 11:03 into overtime for a 4-3 win over the Stars on tuesday night in Dallas.

“it took us a little while to get to our game tonight,” said Avalanche coach Jared Bednar. “they capitalize­d on their chances in the first period.”

Dallas had nine shots on goal in the first period, and came just inches short of a fourth goal. but the Stars had just seven more shots the rest of regulation before being denied six times by Alexander Georgiev in overtime before former Star Andrew cogliano got a puck out of a scrum in the corner and chipped ahead to wood, who was screaming for the puck.

Rangers win in 2 oTs

Vincent Trocheck scored a power-play goal off a rebound at 7:24 of the second extra period and the Rangers beat the Hurricanes, 4-3, to take a 2-0 lead in their second-round playoff series tuesday night.

“i don’t know. i’ll watch it and let you know tomorrow,” trocheck said. “typically when those games go into overtime, double overtime, any team could win those games.”

Alexis Lafreniere scored twice, chris kreider also had a power-play goal, and Artemi Panarin added three assists for the Rangers. Igor Shesterkin stopped a season-high 54 shots.

the Rangers won their sixth straight in the playoffs, and eighth straight dating to the regular season. New York got its first overtime playoff win since Game 7 of the first round in 2022 against Pittsburgh.

the series shifts to Raleigh, N.c., for the next two games, with Game 3 on thursday night.

Blackhawks re-sign F

the blackhawks re-signed forward Lukas Reichel to a twoyear contract. the team announced the deal that runs through the 2025-26 season with a $1.2 million cap hit. Reichel, who turns 22 on May 17, finished with five goals and 11 assists in 65 games . . . the blues removed the interim tag from Drew Bannister’s title and named him their coach, according to president and general manager Doug Armstrong.
