Savor Memorial Day Weekend around Boston

Sure, sure, the calendar tells us summer starts next month — but our hearts tell us summer starts now, and the weather is backing up that feeling. From Megan thee Stallion and a Dunkin’ pop-up, to mini-golf, outdoor movies, and clam cakes, here are some epic ways to welcome the warmth.

SPIRIT OF THE HOLIDAY

Somerville’s Memorial Day parade steps off at 11 a.m. on Sunday from Davis Square, ending at broadway & north streets, according to the city’s website, with a Remembranc­e ceremony on Monday at 10 a.m. at Veterans’ Memorial cemetery. Meanwhile, the annual boston common Memorial Day Flag Garden, May 23-May 27 at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, commemorat­es Massachuse­tts service members who lost their lives in the line of duty with some 37,000 flags.

You can also tune in at 8 p.m. Monday to pbS’s 35th Annual national Memorial Day concert in Washington, D.c., hosted by Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna. It also streams via www.pbs.org/national-memorial-dayconcert and on Youtube.

BOSTON CALLING & “HOUSE OF DUNKIN’”

It’s not officially summer in boston until an eclectic group of musical A-listers rock Harvard Athletic complex. Yup, boston calling runs May 24-26 with a fire lineup.

on the docket Friday: leon bridges, Ed Sheeran, Renee Rapp, and more. Saturday’s lineup includes tyler childers, phish’s trey Anastasio & classic tab, Khruangbin, Motherfolk, and local rockers Ward Hayden & the outliers. Sunday is stacked: the Killers, Hozier, Megan thee Stallion, the Heavy Heavy, the Revivalist­s, and more.

Kick off the weekend thursday with free admission to the IcA from 5 to 9 p.m. the waterfront museum also offers free admission on Memorial Day proper, May 27, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (Advance ticket required; available to reserve starting May 26 at 10 a.m.) current exhibition­s include a “powerful” survey of the work of Dominican-born painter Firelei báez, which earned raves from Globe critic Murray Whyte, and “Wu tsang: of Whales” (Whyte: “impossible not to be drawn in.”)

When the temps rise, we crave lobster rolls, clam strips, burgers, and anything off a grill.

Golden clam cakes, stuffies, and cups of beer with an ocean view at Flo’s is a Rhody summer-must — and the secret is getting out.
