Boyertown senior legion team splits with Quakeretow­n, Souderton

Senior Legion

Quinn Mason and Tate Yergey (three RBI, double and triple) each finished with two hits as Boyertown used a five-run fifth to overcome Quakertown on June 1.

Mason, Pat Maloney (one hit), JT Cooley, Nick DiCiacco (one hit, one RBI) and Christian Wagner (one RBI) each finished with a run scored in the win. Mike Xanthopoul­os got the win on the bump, tossing four innings of no-hit ball. Trevor Waldman and Justin Wieand also chipped in on mound duty, not allowing a run in three innings of combined work. Souderton used an eightrun fourth inning to beat the Bears on May 29

Boyertown scored its runs in the first and second innings but couldn’t avoid the fateful inning when Justin Wieand ran into trouble in his third inning of relief of starter Grant Fronheiser, who pitched one clean inning.

Quinn Mason batted leadoff and went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Boyertown. Souderton got twohit games from Connor Lennon and Mitch Amenta (two RBI).

Jr. Legion baseball

A.J. Kline provided timely relief for the Boyertown Bear-Cubs as they edged Hamburg in Berks County League play on June 4.

Kline got the win off two scoreless innings of mound work in relief of Colin Maloney. Gavin Henderson led the Boyertown (6-0, 10-4-1) offense with two doubles whileBilly Coleman drove in a pair of runs.

Jake Harman’s basesloade­d triple in the second inning proved to be the game-winning hit for the Boyertown Grizzlies in their Twin-County League game with Phoenixvil­le on June 4.

John Wagner added an RBI double in the sixth for Boyertown. Richie Vizzarri also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and he picked up the save in relief of winning pitcher Jared Waldman.

Andrew Hartman threw five innings of two-hit, sixstrikeo­ut baseball before Gavin Henderson threw a perfect inning for Bear Cubs in their mercy-rule Berks County League win over Kutztown on June 3.

Gavin Richards, Stephen Cisik and Billy Coleman led the offense for Boyertown (5-0, 9-4-1) with two RBI each.

Glenmoore prevailed in a contest that only yielded three hits per team. Ryan Schwab went the distance for Boyertown, striking out six on June 1.

Mike Martin (double), Schwab and Chris Davis had the hits for Boyertown.

The Boyertown Bear-Cubs complement­ed Colin Maloney and Gavin Henderson’s pitching power with the bats of four players for a five-inning Berks County League romp over Oley/Topton on May 31.

Maloney got the winning decision for Boyertown (20, 6-4-1) after collaborat­ing with Henderson on a two-hitter, Maloney recording five of the Bear-Cubs’ seven strikeouts. At the plate, Lian Chambers and Gavin Richards each drove in pairs of runs while Henderson and Hartman each had two hits. The Grizzlies won the Ralph Blank Tournament championsh­ip Sunday with an 8-5 victory over Yardley on May 29.

Jared Waldman supplied the game-winning hit in the sixth inning with a basesloade­d two-run single while John Wagner had three hits, a double, and two RBI.

Nolan Kline and Tyler Smith combined on the pitching effort to lift the Grizzlies to 9-1 overall.

City/County 16U

The Pine Forge Junior team improved to 2-1 with a five-inning victory over the Wildcats on June 1. Pine Forge pounded out 13 hits in the win, Zane Alderfer, Brett Leister, Todd Barton, Shane McCullen and Seth Yergey each finishing with two hits apiece. McCullen drove in three runs with a double and triple. Seth Yergey picked up the win, going all five innings while scattering four hits and striking out six.

Babe Ruth baseball

Boyertown pounded out 12 hits and drew six walks in support of Jordan Miller’s complete game victory on the mound on June 3.
