Boyertown man stabbed by victim during attempted robbery

A Boyertown man was stabbed while attempting to rob two people, ages 20 and 17, in Topton on June 1.

At 4:19 a.m., State Police Reading was forwarded a dispatch regarding a stabbing incident. The call was referred to PSP Reading by Lehigh County Upper Macungie Police Department (UMPD). UMPD responded to the area of the Terre Hill water park along Route 222 for the report of an individual with a knife wound. The injured individual was subsequent­ly transporte­d to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Investigat­ion revealed Jeremy Boyer, 30, Hamburg; Johnathan Brooks, 30, Fogelsvill­e, and Joseph Curry, 31, Boyertown, conspired to meet the victims Damien Obrien, 20, Alburtis, and a 17-year-old juvenile from Mertztown at a predetermi­ned location in Topton Borough to rob them of $400 in cash.

During the Robbery attempt, a scuffle ensued and victim Obrien stabbed Curry with a knife to defend himself. All individual­s then fled the scene.

Curry remains in the Lehigh Valley Hospital in serious condition.

Boyer and Brooks were taken into custody and charged with the attempted robbery and assault of the victims. Charges against Boyer include Conspiracy, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Theft and has been committed to the BCCF under a $250,000 bond. Charges against Brooks include Conspiracy, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Theft and committed to the BCCF under a $250,000 bond. Charges are to be determined for Curry.

The actions of OBRIEN are under review by the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
