Post 217 Patriots stay atop South

The Patriots’ bats broke out in the middle innings as Nate Christman (2-for-2), Ben Flicker and Tyler Wentzel each drove in two runs in the six-inning 12-2 win over Post 625 Wildcats on June 22.

Winning pitcher Sebastian Williamson (6 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs, 7 Ks) and Pete Vaccaro also had two-hit games for Post 217.

A day earlier, the Patriots were 3-1 winners over Wyomissing.

On June 23, Post 217 downed Central Division leader Southern Area 6-2 and closed the week with its lone setback, a 5-2 loss to Valley View.

Post 217 ended the week atop the Schuylkill-Berks League South Division standings at 14-1, ahead of Muhlenberg (10-5).

Grant Fronheiser pitched seven quality innings while Cory Melchior had four hits to lift the Bears past the Blue Jays in Berks County League play on June 21.

Fronheiser limited Exeter to six hits and two runs across seven innings before giving way to Christian Wagner and Trevor Waldman. Melchior hit 4-for-5 out of the three-hole, plating three runs and scoring once. Gavin Mourar finished with a pair of hits and two runs scored out of the ninehole while Tyler Kreitz had a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Clayton Douglas had two hits and an RBI for Exeter in the loss. The Bears were done in by the A’s scoring six third-inning runs in each team’s opener of the Berks Invitation­al Tournament on June 24.

Boyertown was held to three hits by Muhlenberg pitcher Braydon Keller: Ryan Weller (two RBI) with a home run, Tate Yergey and Pat Maloney with singles. Quinn Mason had the Bears’ other RBI as starting pitcher Trevor Waldman took the loss.

The Bears could only muster up five hits off Exton starting pitcher Evan Spano en route to a 4-2 loss to open their day at the Legion baseball Berks Invitation­al Tournament.

Then the Bears’ offense came to life.

Boyertown responded with a 15-hit, 10-2 win over Nor-Gwyn in the night tilt to close out the day on June 25.

Spano went the distance in the opener for the Bandits, allowing solo runs in the third and sixth innings to go along with eight strikeouts and a pair of walks. Quinn Mason posted two of Boyertown’s hits and added a run scored and an RBI. Mike Raineri also had a run scored while Christian Wagner had an RBI.

Boyertown starter Nick DiCiacco let two runs cross in the opening frame before settling down to pitch three innings before Cory Melchior and Christian Wagner went the remainder in relief. Jackson Ritthamel, Zach Roberts, Matt Dinacci and Spano each had a double for Exton.

Boyertown crossed six runs in the bottom of the first inning to open up Game Two.

Mason (run scored), Raineri (two runs scored), Cory Melchior (two runs scored, RBI), Ryan Weller (two runs scored, two RBI), Nick DiCiacco (run scored, two RBI) and Kaleb Miller each racked up two hits.

Justin Wieand earned the win on the mound, giving way to just four hits in five innings of work.

Nor-Gwyn’s Mason Blankenbur­g was tagged with the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) in three innings of work. The Raiders used a bloop single followed by a wild pitch, a passed ball and a groundout to score the go-ahead run in the fifth inning en route to the win on June 26.

Jack Murphy’s double followed by Zachary Rice’s single in the first gave Twin Valley an early lead as the Raiders overcame a poor performanc­e defensivel­y that yielded five errors.

David Sabulsky finished with one hit, one run scored and one RBI in the victory.

Boyertown’s Quinn Mason finished with a game-high three hits. Grant Fronheiser took the loss on the bump despite only allowing four hits.

Joe Storz got the win for Twin Valley, tossing seven innings while allowing five hits. Storz struck out five.

Sr. Babe Ruth

Nate Kline threw a one-hitter, helping the Indians secure the top seed for the upcoming playoffs with a five-inning win over Boyertown Black on June 24.

Seth Endy had four hits — three doubles among them — and scored four runs for Pine Forge (16-4). Jordan Shustack had two doubles and four RBI, Ben Longacre two hits and two RBI and Tom Randall two hits for Pine Forge.

Junior Legion

The combined effort of Kyle Jackson and Gavin Richards helped lead the Bear Cubs to the Berks County League victory on June 21. Jackson tossed five innings of shutout baseball, while Richards twirled two innings of hitless relief.

Gavin Henderson led the Boyertown offense with two triples and two runs scored. Billy Coleman went 2-for-2 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Broc Babb went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Colin Maloney added a triple and an RBI for the Bear Cubs.

Jared Waldman, Jake Harman and John Wagner each collected two hits as the Grizzlies powered their way to a victory on June 23. Waldman finished the day with two RBI while Harman and Wagner hit a triple and double, respective­ly.

Ryan Schwab, the game’s winning pitcher, finished with two RBI and a triple. Drew Hartman threw four shutout innings to help the Boyertown Bear-Cubs secure victory in the Berks County League on June 25.

Broc Babb had three RBI, and Gavin Henderson two, for Boyertown (16-1, 20-7-1). Shane Horrocks chipped in with a pair of hits.

Making up for a postponed game from earlier in the season, the Boyertown Grizzlies ended up splitting a continued Twin-County League double-header with Glenmoore with a 6-5, 10-inning loss followed by a 5-1 win on June 25.

Ryan Schway had two hits and three RBI in the opener while Jared Waldman had a pair of hits and two RBI.

In the second tilt, Waldman took the win on the mound as John Wagner (three RBI) and Matt Haman each knocked two hits.

Prep legion

Brandon Bastian picked up the win while Tyler Sharayko pitched four innings of scoreless relief as the Bear Paws improved to 7-2 on the season on June 23.

Derrick Warriner went 3-for-4 for Boyertown. Alex Young (2-for-4) and Brandon Staniszews­ki (2-for-3) both picked up two hits.

On June 26, the Bear Paws’ 13-hit attack was led by Brandon Staniszews­ki (3-for3, two doubles), Tanner McCafferty (2-for-3, two doubles), Sam Legerton (2-for-3) and Gabe Willman (2-for-3). Brandon Bastian was the winning pitcher, allowing only three hits in a complete game.

16U City County

Noah Kurtz and Peyton Schlott led the potent Bearcat offense to a win over Post 625 on Monday night in City County League play on June 21.

Kurtz went 2-for-4 with four runs-batted-in, including a tworun triple in the fifth inning. Schlott finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Hunter Bales got the win on the mound for the Bearcats (11-0).

The Bearcats (12-1) got a solid effort from Logan Mabry, who allowed four hits over six innings of work on June 23. After Mabry left the game when he was hit by a line drive, Noah Kurtz got the last three outs of the game. The Bearcats also had seven different players tally hits.
