Boyertown cross country teams open with wins

Boys Cross Country

BOYERTOWN 15, METHACTON 45 >> Three Bears crossed the finish line first to set the tone for their team’s PAC victory over the Warriors on Sept. 7.

Josh Endy, Dominic DeRafelo and Justin Smyth were all clocked at 17:52, the front part of Boyertown’s Top Five pack that included Christian McComb and Kollin Miller. Nick DeFillippi­s finished first for Methacton, coming in seventh.

Girls Cross Country

BOYERTOWN 21, METHACTON 34 >> Gillian Kasitz marked her return to the Bears’ program by winning the PAC race with the Warriors, and helping her team to the overall victory on Sept. 7.

Kasitz was a solid first on her home course in 20:29, followed by teammates Maddy Hunsberger (21:38) and Amanda Murray (22:07). Methacton’s top finisher was Carly Uklavoic, fourth in 22:28.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 2, BOYERTOWN

0>> Andrew Daubenspec­k finished with four saves in goal for his second shutout of the season as the Vikings downed the Bears in PAC play on Sept. 7.

Kyle Bessette scored off an assist from Adam Styer on a corner in the 11th minute to open it up. Brian Love gave PV some breathing room late with a 25-yard blast. Connor McKeown made five saves in goal for Boyertown. OWEN J. ROBERTS 1, BOYERTOWN 0 >> Nolan Smith ran on to a long ball from Andrew Siana and fired home the game-winner with four minutes remaining in regulation to lift the Wildcats in a rematch of last year’s Pioneer Athletic Conference championsh­ip game on Sept. 9.

OJR keeper Tyler Stonebrake­r had seven saves; Boyertown keeper Connor McKeown saved eight.

Boyertown was denied twice by the woodwork, once off the post, once off the crossbar.

BOYERTOWN 4, DANIEL BOONE 2 >> Alex Kidwell and Sal Marciante each scored pairs of goals to key the Bears’ non-league win over the Blazers on Sept. 10.

Marciante was also credited with a pair of assists while Sam Marks and Ben Wise had one apiece. Jamie Burns did Boone’s scoring.

BOYERTOWN 4, PERKIOMEN VALLEY 1 >> Lauren Haley netted a hat trick to lead the Bears in their PAC victory over the Vikings on Sept. 7.

Corrinne Renninger completed Boyertown’s scoring. PV got its goal from Sydney Marasco. OWEN J. ROBERTS 3, BOYERTOWN 0 >> The Wildcats handled the Bears in a matchup of annual Liberty Division contenders. OJR goals were scored by Mahogany Willis, Mia Baumgartne­r and Veronica Roach on Sept. 9.

Girls Tennis

BOYERTOWN 5, POTTSTOWN 0 >> The Bears won all pairings in straight sets to prevail over the Trojans in this PAC match.

Lauren Steffa had a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles to lead Boyertown.

PHOENIXVIL­LE 7, BOYERTOWN 0 >> The Phantoms lost just four games in singles play as they swept the Bears in their PAC match.

Phoenixvil­le was led by singles players Julia Gumieniak and Gina Brown, who took their respective first and second matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. The best individual showing for Boyertown came at third singles, where Lauren Staffa won four games.

Boys Golf

BOYERTOWN 221, UPPER PERKIOMEN

223 >> Though Anthony Boyle claimed low-man honors for the Indians, the Bears were able to edge their PAC guests at Macoby Run on Sept. 7.

Following Boyle’s 41, Boyertown had 42s from Kyle Green and Mark Engler — matching a similar result by UP’s Deion Doperak — and 44s from Jim Gassner and Bryan Bilanin.

Girls Golf

BOYERTOWN 185, PERKIOMEN VALLEY

195 >> Savanna Haas shot a seven-over par 42 to lead the Bears to a victory on Sept. 6 at Twin Ponds Golf Course, Par 35.

Natalie Stabilito (47), Abby Beidler (47) and Katie Goida (49) each registered good rounds on the nine-hole course to edge out the Vikings despite a terrific showing from Katie Pupillo (44) and Alyssa Washelski (46).
