Michael R. Perles Sr., 92, of Boyertown
Michael R. Perles Sr., 92, of Boyertown, formerly of Morgantown, widower of Constance R. Perles and companion of Shirley R. Moyer, died on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 at Manatawny Manor.
Born in Shamokin, he was the son of the late Josephine (Jacko) and John S. Perles. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on a PT Boat in the Pacific Theater. Michael worked as a head miner for 22 years for Bethlehem Steel Grace Mines in Morgantown.
Michael was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Gilbertsville. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 537 in Morgantown. He enjoyed cutting fire wood and selling it as a hobby. He also enjoyed traveling.
Surviving in addition to his companion of 34 years are two sons, Michael R. Perles Jr., husband of Patricia of Narvon, and Mark M. Perles, of Morgantown; two daughters, Alexa C. Gebhard, wife of William F., of Morgantown, and Michele Cooper of Knoxville, Tenn.; one grandson, Shane; six granddaughters, Courtney, Manda, Michele, Makenzie, Meredith and Margaux; two greatgrandsons, Daniel and Max; three great-granddaughters, Constance, Catherine and Molly; two sisters, Justine and Marie and one brother Joseph.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Albert and John.
A funeral service was held on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 35 Wilson Ave., Gilbertsville, PA. Burial in Caernarvon Cemetery in Morgantown.
