- Submitted to Digital First Media

A reception celebrating the work of artists Shannon Omlor and Abigail Vettese will be hosted from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Firefly Cafe, 12 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown. Admission is $10 and includes vegan hors d’oeuvres. In partnership with Maple Springs Vineyard, Bechtelsville, wine will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle during the art reception, as well as during the cafe’s dinner service on Friday, Dec. 9, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Firefly Cafe hosts quarterly art exhibits featuring the work of local and regional artists. The current exhibit features the paintings of Shannon Omlor and Abigail Vettese.

Omlor, of Gilbertsville, returned to her passion of painting after working as a photographer for over a decade. Born and raised in Boyertown, she graduated with honors from the studio arts program at the University of Pittsburgh.

In her artist statement, Omlor describes her work as being “influenced by the energy of the environment” around her. “My interest lies not in making a literal representation of nature, but rather in celebrating the physical sensory experience of land and sea. As a result, the paintings can be vibrant and energetic or calming and serene. It’s all about seeing the familiar in a fresh, new way,” she writes.

Reading native Abigail Vettese is a self-taught painter with a background in fire performance and flow arts. In her artist statement, she writes that her passion for painting developed as she sought “a more cerebral endeavor” to balance fire performing, which is a physical form of expression. “My work is a reflection of the multi-faceted and ever-evolving nature of the mind. As an artist, it is my deepest goal to convey the human experience through abstract means in hopes of unionizing spirituality and creativity,” Vettese shares.

Both artists will be available to discuss their work with guests during the event. Located in the heart of Boyertown, Firefly Cafe is a vegetarian restaurant that offers organic, vegan, gluten-free and locally sourced food options.
