Weeks turns in strong season with SC-Aiken

Boyertown grad turns heads in junior season

Daulton Weeks has wrapped up another solid season playing with the South Carolina-Aiken baseball team.

The 6-foot, 200-pound junior, a Boyertown Area grad, played in all 55 games with 54 starts at third base for the Pacers who finished 40-15 overall and 17-7 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Weeks hit .290 (62-for214) with 16 doubles, two triples and eight home runs. He scored 40 runs and was second on the team with 48 runs batted in. He was 8-for-12 in a three game series with Flagler March 31-April 2 in Aiken, S.C. and 5-for-12 with a double and triple in three games with Armstrong State on March 4-6 in Savannah, Ga. At third base, he had 13 errors on 119 chances (.891) with seven double plays.

“Daulton was a big asset to our 40 win season,” coach Brent Hager said. “Defensivel­y, he made some unbelievab­le plays that saved some runs. Offensivel­y, he learned as the season went along how tough this conference is on a day-to-day basis. He had some big hits for us down the stretch.”

Weeks started his college career at Harford Community

College in Bel Air, Md. in 2014. He transferre­d to Aiken and was a red-shirt in 2015. Last season, he hit .365 in 64 games for the Pacers.

AMANDA KULP (METHACTON) >> The speedy outfielder was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Associatio­n Northeast Region third team and the Atlantic-10 Conference first team for her standout effort with the St. Joseph’s softball team. The 5-foot-7 sophomore set a school record and led the A-10 in stolen bases with 31. She also led the Hawks in batting (.367) and runs scored (31). Kulp had 56 hits in 157 at-bats with four doubles, a triple and 13 runs batted in. In centerfiel­d, she handled 62 chances without an error. St. Joseph’s finished with a 25-28 overall mark and a 14-8 mark in league play. The Hawks posted a 2-2 record in the A-10 tourney, the season ending with a 2-0 loss to Massachuse­tts on May 13.

JUSTIN SCHWENK (SPRINGFORD) >> The freshman midfielder led the Monmouth men’s lacrosse team with 77 ground balls and won 164 of 316 face-offs (.519). He also had three goals and an assist. Junior Sean Tornetta (Perkiomen Valley) played in 18 games off the bench and had two goals and an assist. The Monarchs posted a program record 14 victories with four losses, went 6-0 during the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season and was beaten 10-7 by Bryant in the first round of the NCAA Division I Tournament on May 10.

ANAMARIE BRUNI (PERKIOMEN VALLEY) >> The freshman outfielder played in 53 games with 43 starts for the South Florida softball team, the Bulls finishing 32-24 overall and 9-8 in the American Athletic Conference. Bruni hit .287 (35-for-122) with two doubles and a triple. She had 11 runs batted in, tied for the team lead in runs scored with 27 and had five stolen bases. In the field, she made three errors on 44 chances (.932). USF saw the season end with a 7-0 loss to Memphis in the AAC quarterfin­als on May 11.

TYLER FURHMAN (BOYERTOWN) >> The senior finished strong for the 14-6 Stevenson men’s lacrosse team. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound attack had two goals in a 12-6 victory over Albright which gave the Mustangs the MAC Commonweal­th title on May 6, had four goals in an NCAA Division III first round victory over Nazareth on May 10 and two goals as the Mustangs dropped a 17-8 decision to nationally-ranked Rochester Tech on May 12 in Rochester, N.Y. He finished with 31 goals and two assists for 33 points and had 20 ground balls.

GABRIELLE ERMISH (POTTSGROVE) >> The freshman right-hander posted a 10-8 record with a 2.42 earned run average pitching for the Bryant softball team, the Bulldogs posting a 1236 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the Northeast Conference. Ermish pitched in 23 games with 13 starts and four complete games. In 117.1 innings, she gave up 123 hits and 56 runs, 52 earned, with 43 walks and a team-high 58 strikeouts. At the plate, Ermish hit .242 (22-for-91) with a home run and 13 runs batted in.

MEGAN NEMETH (PHOENIXVIL­LE) >> The sophomore started all 21 games in goal for the Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham women’s lacrosse team which finished 17-4 with a 7-0 mark in the MAC Freedom regular season and winning the league tourney with a 14-3 victory over Misericord­ia. The Devils defeated Hamline 18-2 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament but saw the season end with a 13-5 second-round loss to Gettysburg on May 14. Nemeth had 13 saves against Gettysburg and finished the season giving up 97 goals with 124 saves.

JORDAN PRUTZER (METHACTON) >> The senior lefthander posted a 5-4 record pitching for the Villanova softball team, the Wildcats finishing 35-20 overall, 13-8 in the Big East Conference and saw the season end with a 4-0 loss to DePaul in the first round of the league playoffs on May 12. Prutzer pitched in 19 games with 11 starts and had a 4.71 earned run average. In 58 innings, she gave up 66 hits and 44 runs, 39 earned, with 21 walks and 38 strikeouts. She finished her career with a 13-8 record despite suffering a serious knee injury early in the 2015 season.

RICHY MASCIARELL­I (POTTSTOWN) >> The senior center fielder started all 45 games for the Elizabetht­own baseball team. He hit .265 (45-for-170) with five doubles, a team-high five triples, a home run, 22 runs batted in and 36 runs scored. He also stole 21 bases in 23 attempts and handled 115 chances without an error. The Blue Jays finished 28-17 overall and 11-7 in the Landmark Conference, captured the league tourney title and then posted a 1-2 record in the NCAA Division III and saw the season end with an 11-1 loss to Alvernia on May 20 in York.

KIRA GENSLER (SPRINGFORD) >> The junior attack scored 14 goals and picked up two assists for 16 points for the Temple women’s lacrosse team, the Owls finishing 13-5 overall, posting a 6-3 record in the Big East Conference and seeing the season end with a 21-9 loss to No. 2-ranked Florida in the league quarterfin­als on May 4. Gensler also had 10 ground balls, two draw controls and five caused turnovers. Freshman Maddie Gebert (Owen J. Roberts) had a goal and two assists along with four ground balls, 15 draw controls and two caused turnovers.

BRETT DAVIS (PERKIOMEN VALLEY) >> The senior second base/pitcher hit .311 (19-for-61) for the Misericord­ia baseball team. He had two doubles, eight runs batted in and 20 runs scored. He also pitched in relief in 11 games for the Cougars and was 1-0 with two saves with a 2.70 earned run average. In the field, he made nine errors on 104 chances (.913). Misericord­ia finished 30-14 overall and 16-5 in MAC Freedom play and saw the season end with two losses in the NCAA Division III Regionals May 1819 in Washington.
