St. Luke Lutheran Church 35 WIL­SON AVE., GILBERTSVILLE

Join us at 9:30 a.m. on Sun­day for wor­ship. This is the 15th Sun­day af­ter Pen­te­cost.

Com­mu­nion will be cel­e­brated, as we do ev­ery Sun­day. This will be the fi­nal Sun­day of our “Bread Sun­days,” where the Gospel fo­cus is on Je­sus as the Bread of Life. We will cel­e­brate by fea­tur­ing a liturgy with en­er­getic and rhyth­mic world mu­sic. Our table will be spread with lo­cal wine and real bread.

We wel­come Linc Noecker as our guest mu­si­cian on Sun­day!

The church of­fice will be closed Mon­day in ob­ser­vance of La­bor Day.

The Prop­erty Com­mit­tee will meet on Tues­day evening at 6:30 p.m. Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee will meet Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. and Fi­nance Com­mit­tee will meet at 7 p.m.

The Com­mu­nity Cloth­ing Rack will be open Sept. 5 for cloth­ing drop off. Dur­ing the sum­mer, we are open from 9 a.m. un­til noon.

Our 92nd An­nual Beef Veg­etable Soup Sup­per is Sept. 8 from 3-6 pm. Eat in or take out.

Did you know Cal­vary has a book club? We would love for you to join us. The cur­rent read­ing for the Cal­vary BookWorms is “The Kitchen House” by Kathleen Gri­som. Our dis­cus­sion will be held on Sept. 10 at 7 pm. New read­ers are al­ways wel­come. If you have ques­tions or are in­ter­ested in be­ing part of this time of read­ing and shar­ing, see Pas­tor Linda.

Our an­nual Bless­ing of the Pets will be held on Sept. 23 at 2 pm. We de­sire to open this time of bless­ing pets to the sur­round­ing com­mu­nity and also to in­vite our neigh­bors to en­joy our walk­ing path with their pets. As in the past, we will hold a col­lec­tion for the An­i­mal Res­cue League of Berks County and of­fer treats avail­able for the an­i­mals who are present. We hope to be able to of­fer bless­ings to dogs, cats, rab­bits, lizards, birds, and what­ever other pets God brings to our time of gath­er­ing. Please share the date and time of this pet bless­ing with your fam­ily, your friends, your neigh­bors, your col­leagues so we can bless God’s beloved crea­tures.

Shep­herd of the Hills Church 527 HOFFMANSVILLE ROAD, BECHTELSVILLE

Holy Com­mu­nion will be cel­e­brated on Sept. 2 at 8 and 10:30 a.m.

The Montco-Berks Golden Age Club will meet at Shep­herd of the Hills on Sept. 6, 2 p.m. The pro­gram will be “Mu­sic by Michael Kropp.”

Boy Scouts meet Mon­day at 7 p.m. AA groups meet at the church on Wednesdays at 8 p.m., Thurs­days at 12:15 p.m. and Satur­days at 10 a.m. Al Anon meets in the church on Tues­days at 8 p.m.

Wor­ship with us on the 15th Sun­day af­ter Pen­te­cost on Sept. 2 at our one ser­vice at 9 a.m. Bridge Pas­tor; Pas­tor David Pen­man will be lead­ing the con­gre­ga­tion in a Holy Com­mu­nion wor­ship ser­vice, preach­ing the morn­ing ser­mon, as well as the Chil­dren’s Ser­mon. Those min­is­ter­ing at this 9 a.m. ser­vice are Acolyte; OPEN, Lec­tor; Sue Hoff­man, Com­mu­nion As­sist: Linda Quinn and Greeters/ Ush­ers; Sue and Norman Hoff­man.

Join us Sept. 2 as we re­turn to our weekly Sun­day School classes. We will have classes for pre-school through mid­dle school and our adult dis­cus­sion class. The Prayer Shawl project is com­ing along nicely. We now have an in­ven­tory of shawls to start the pro­gram and the Stitch­ers will con­tinue to keep a sup­ply of shawls on hand. The Dis­ci­ple­ship Com­mit­tee and the Pas­tor will be de­cid­ing who will re­ceive a Prayer Shawl. If any­one has a sug­ges­tion or wishes to have some­one re­ceive a shawl, please con­tact the Pas­tor or a Dis­ci­ple­ship Com­mit­tee Mem­ber.
