Road work scheduled on Route 422 near Pottstown

Route 422 motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions over the next two weeks for constructi­on activities.

The work is part of a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of Route 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, PennDOT announced. The work schedule is: · Wednesday, September 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the left lane is scheduled to close on eastbound Route 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchang­es for median constructi­on;

· Thursday, September 6, and Friday, September 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., alternatin­g left and right lane closures will be in place on eastbound Route 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchang­es for milling;

· Friday, September 7, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m., the left lane is scheduled to close on westbound Route 422 between the Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchang­es for barrier removal;

· Saturday, September 8, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., alternatin­g left and right lane closures will be in place on eastbound Route 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchang­es for paving;

· Monday, September 10, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., the left lane is scheduled to close on eastbound Route 422 between the Armand Hammer Boulevard and Sanatoga interchang­es for barrier installati­on and removal;

· Tuesday, September 11, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., alternatin­g left and right lane closures will be in place on eastbound Route 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchang­es for lane shifts;

· Wednesday, September 12, and Thursday, September 13, from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m. the following day, the left lane is scheduled to close on westbound Route 422 between the Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchang­es for barrier removal; and

· Friday, September 14, from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m. the following day, the left lane is scheduled to close on westbound Route 422 between the Sanatoga and Armand Hammer Boulevard interchang­es for median constructi­on.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on Route 422 through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. These operations are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor is building, in phases, new Route 422 structures over the Schuylkill River; new Route 422 structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding Route 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over Route 422; improving and realigning ramps at the Route 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchang­e; reconstruc­ting and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to Route 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligen­t Transporta­tion equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs.
