Hanover Square bridge closed
The Hanover Square Road Bridge on New Hanover Square Road in New Hanover Township was closed Sept. 7 following a bridge inspection that found severe deterioration of the superstructure and bridge deck, PennDOT said.
The bridge, which crosses over a branch of Swamp Creek, will remain closed indefinitely until PennDOT engineers evaluate the condition of the bridge and complete a rehabilitation or replacement.
During the closure, motorists will be detoured over Route 73 (Big Road), Route 663 (Charlotte Street) and Swamp Pike. Local access will be maintained up to the closure.
Built in 1934, the three-span, steel-I beam, bituminous bridge is 117 feet long, 29 feet wide and carries an average of 2,186 vehicles a day. The structure had a posted weight limit of 3 tons be-
fore it closed.
