Funds raised help pur­chase gear, equip­ment for Shoemakersville fire­fight­ers

The Shoemakersville Fire Com­pany Aux­il­iary will be hold­ing a fundrais­ing event in Novem­ber. Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods will be re­turn­ing to en­ter­tain Nov. 17.

Funds raised from the event will go to­ward the pur­chase of gear and equip­ment for Shoemakersville fire­fight­ers and the com­mu­nity, as well as ben­e­fit one of their fire­fight­ers.

“The pur­pose of the event is to pur­chase needed items for the fire­fight­ers in pro­tect­ing the Bor­ough of Shoemakersville and Perry Town­ship res­i­dents and their prop­erty. We will also be help­ing one of our ac­tive fire­fight­ers who has been di­ag­nosed with Lou Gehrig’s dis­ease,” said com­mit­tee chair­man Susie Lutz. “We hope this event will show the ca­ma­raderie of the fire­fight­ers and Aux­il­iary work­ing closely to­gether for one com­mon goal to en­rich the lives of the fire­fight­ers and make their work eas­ier with new equip­ment.”

Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods, a 50s and 60s Rockn-Roll party band, will per­form a va­ri­ety of mu­sic from the years of 1955 to 1968 at Shoemakersville Fire Com­pany Ban­quet Hall, 300 Church Ave., Shoemakersville. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Mu­sic will be per­formed from 8 to 11 p.m.

“Flamin’ Dick is well known in this area play­ing Rock-n-Roll, 50s and 60s era up to the present,” said Lutz.

The band con­sists of Dick “Flamin’ Dick” Weather­holtz of Robeso­nia on lead vo­cals and gui­tar, Keith “Spike” Rentschler of Robeso­nia on gui­tar and vo­cals, Glenn Paul “G.P.” Balthaser of Lebanon on bass gui­tar and vo­cals, John “Squeek” Zaneski of Pottstown on sax, key­boards and vo­cals, Jack “Flash” Keller of Read­ing on drums and vo­cals, and Lee Auchen­bach of Robeso­nia on vo­cals.

The Aux­il­iary and fire­fight­ers will be serv­ing food, in­clud­ing home­made chicken noo­dle soup, veg­etable soup, hot dogs, roast beef sand­wiches, French fries and ham­burg­ers. Home­made cakes and pies will be avail­able for pur­chase.

The com­mit­tee con­sists of John Lesher, David Rubright, Woodrow Lutz, Julie Hof­fert, San­dra Mas­ters, Lu­cille Gough, De­bra Phillips, Bar­bara Keim, Tif­fany Gru­ber, Ruth Hill, and Su­san Lutz.

Must be age 21 or older to at­tend. No bot­tles may be brought into the fa­cil­ity that night. The bar will be open to ac­com­mo­date any­one with a pur­chase of an al­co­holic bev­er­age.
