Ruscombmanor Fire Company had record-breaking attendance at the 2019 New Year’s Day Pork and Kraut Dinner, serving more than 900 dinners.

“We did have to stop serving about 30 minutes early this year due to running out of pork, for this we do apologize to those that we had to turn away,” the fire company posted on their Facebook page. “We thank everyone who came out to the diner or stopped in for take-out. We hope you all enjoyed the meal. We appreciate your support!”

Ruscombmanor Assistant Fire Chief Eric Fox said the fire company has been serving the New Year’s Day Pork and Kraut Dinner for more than 20 years.

“This was a record breaking crowd. We have served around 800 people at the past dinners,” said Fox. “It was really great to break the record this year. It made all our members and support staff very happy and we are glad so many people enjoy the dinner each year and in turn tell others about it.”

Fox said that the dinner serves the community by bringing all the people together to talk and socialize and it serves the fire company by being one of its biggest fundraisers and brings all its members together as they spend the days before the dinner preparing the pork and all the trimmings.

“It is a lot of work but we enjoy it,” said Fox.

Pepperidge Farms donated the dinner rolls and desert items for the dinner. Girl Scout Troop 1227 and Boy Scout Troops 508 and 569 and their leaders and parents volunteered at the event. The fire company gives a big thank you to all its members, support staff and their families for all their help with the dinner.

“We definitely appreciate your efforts!” the fire company posted on Facebook. “Without everyone working together it would be impossible to have this event, so thank you to everyone that played a part in making this year’s dinner a record breaking event!”
