Wellness Fair set to return March 30

The Wellness Council of Boyertown invites the community to the 14th Annual Wellness Fair, a free family event for all ages to be held on Saturday, March 30, at Boyertown Area Senior High, 120 Monroe St., Boyertown, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In conjunctio­n with the event, United Way of Boyertown will be holding the annual Unity Walk at 9 a.m. Participan­ts should meet at the Athletic East Entrance of the high school and will walk one mile through Boyertown. The walk started in 2003 to promote diversity and foster a welcoming environmen­t in the Boyertown area community.

The Wellness Fair activities start with the annual “Running of the Bears” competitio­n at 9:30 a.m. Students and their family members from each

school in the Boyertown Area School District run laps, and the school with the highest percentage laps wins the Healthy Bear trophy for this year. Washington Elementary School won the trophy last year.

The fair will feature more than 75 wellness-related vendors with healthy living informatio­n for all ages, exercise-related demonstrat­ions, games, moon bounce, youth obstacle course, basketball fun, door prizes, free water ice from Rita’s, and more. Senior Walking Bingo starts at 10:30 a.m. and continues through 11 a.m., kicking off the monthly Walking Bingo series. New this year, is the introducti­on of the Wellness Market Place, which will include vendors that wish to sell their wellness-related items.

The “Kids Celebrity Chef” healthy cooking competitio­n cook-off and community judging will be held from 11 a.m. to noon and the winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m. Elementary school finalists will bring their delicious healthy dishes for the panel of judges and community to taste.

This year’s panel includes Boyertown Assistant Superinten­dent Marybeth Torchia, PA State Representa­tive Marcy Toepel, Center at Spring Street Executive Chef Christophe­r Mest, Boyertown Mayor Marianne Deery, Dr. Jack Lignelli and former Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation Board member Linda Lignelli.
