New Hanover Evangelica­l Lutheran Church will host a Drug Awareness Seminar and Forum on March 24 at 9 a.m. Guest speakers Brenda Allen of Not One More and Kathy Strain of Drug Free Workplace PA and Family Education will present informatio­n on how to help families in a drug crisis and offer informatio­n on treatment and prevention programs. Faith Formation for all ages takes place at 9 a.m. Sunday mornings. What is Faith Formation? You know this as Sunday School. It’s about gathering and sharing, learning and listening, questionin­g and wrestling. It’s about going deeper and forming (or re-forming, or informing) our faith. Currently, the Adult Faith Formation class is exploring the Parables of Jesus. The Confirmati­on Class is delving into who Jesus is for us today. All invited.

Worship with us on the 3rd Sunday in Lent on March 24 at our ONE worship services at 9 a.m. Pr. Bruce Thorsen, Interim Consultant, will lead the congregati­on in a Holy Communion worship service, present the Children’s Sermon, as well as present the Sermon for the morning. Confirmati­on will be held at 7:45 a.m. in room I. Sunday School for all ages will be held in room H at 8:15 a.m. The Adult Sunday School class will be held in room H at 10:15 a.m. Immediatel­y following the worship service, there will be a Congregati­onal Meeting in the sanctuary for the purpose of obtaining input regarding the church and our call for a pastor. Those ministerin­g at the 9:00 a.m. service are: Acolyte; Dylan Drury, Lector; Diane Houck, Communion Assist: Pat Moser and Greeters/Ushers; Merle and Shirley Deery.

Pastor Penman’s office hours are on Mondays from 9 to 11 a.m. The Bell Choir will rehearse on March 25 at 6:30 p.m. The Church Council will meet on March 26 at 7 p.m. in the parlor. On March 27, we will have a Soup Supper beginning at 6 p.m. in room H/ parlor, which will be followed by the mid-week Lenten service at 7 p.m. in the parlor. The Senior Choir will rehearse immediatel­y following the Lent Service on March 27. The Girl Scouts will meet in the social hall of the church on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. The “Journey’s through Grief” session will be held on March 28 beginning at 7 p.m. in room H, downstairs in the church.

St. Luke Lutheran Church, 35 Wilson Ave., Gilbertsvi­lle

Our 8:30 a.m. Bible Study will be held Sunday. We will meet to explore the lectionary readings of the day. Come to ponder. Come to discuss. Come to listen. Come to learn. Join us at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday for worship. On Sunday we will celebrate the third Sunday of Lent. Pastor Donald Nice will preside, and Kathy Billger will deliver the sermon and children’s sermon. The choir will sing, “He Became a Lamb,” by Beall.

The Evangelism Committee will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m., followed by Christian Education at 8 p.m.

The Community Clothing Rack will be open on Wednesday people to shop for clothing from 1 to 4 p.m.

The fourth soup supper will be held Wednesday night from 6 to 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The soup supper will be followed by the Lenten service, using “Holden Evening Prayer.” The service will be led by Kathy Billger and Ken Jacob.
